What will happen if you use too much hormone medicine

You must not apply too much hormone drugs, otherwise it will cause complications of varying degrees in your body. Hormone drugs are not often used nowadays. This is mainly because the toxic side effects of this drug are too strong. If used frequently, it will kill the good bacteria in your body, eventually leading to drug dependence or worsening of the disease.

Hormones (such as prednisone, methylprednisolone, etc.) are a class of drugs that are widely used and have significant therapeutic effects. But at the same time, due to the complexity of its pharmacological effects, improper use may also lead to various adverse reactions. In principle, treatment should be as small a dose as possible and for as short a course of treatment as possible.

Hormone drugs can be divided into: glucocorticoids, adrenocortical hormones, norepinephrine, progesterone, estrogen, androgen, etc. Common ways of using this type of drug: intravenous, oral, topical and others. Common dosage forms: injectable powder, water injection, capsule, tablet, cream, ointment, aerosol.

Classification by different methods

If classified by drug type, it can be divided into the following five categories:

1. Adrenal cortical hormones: including adrenocorticotropic hormone, glucocorticoids, and mineralocorticoids.

2. Sex hormones: including estrogens, progestins, androgens, anabolic hormones, and gonadotropins

3. Thyroid hormones: including thyroid stimulating hormone and thyroid hormones.

4. Insulin: including long-acting insulin, intermediate-acting insulin and short-acting insulin.

5. Anterior pituitary hormones: including growth hormones, somatostatins, growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) and similar drugs, and adrenocorticotropic hormone-releasing hormone.

Among them, the first category, adrenal cortical hormones, refers to the general term for various hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex.

The adrenal gland is an endocrine gland located above the kidney, one on the left and one on the right, weighing about 5g. The left adrenal gland is approximately half-moon-shaped, and the right adrenal gland is triangular. The adrenal gland can be divided into the cortex and medulla. Among them, the cortex secretes three major types of hormones: mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids, and a small amount of sex hormones. Therefore, men also secrete estrogen, and women also secrete androgen. When secretion is disordered, it will lead to disorder of secondary sexual characteristics.
