What is rosacea

What is rosacea

Rosacea is a relatively serious disease, and there are many people suffering from rosacea in life. However, rosacea is generally more common in men. Most people do not pay much attention to it after suffering from rosacea. Although rosacea can cause a person's nose to become red and affect personal image, people usually do not pay much attention to it because they do not know enough about rosacea. So what exactly is rosacea?

What is rosacea?

The main symptoms of rosacea are erythema, papules, pustules on the nose and face, and the development of nasal polyps over time. Initially, the middle part of the face, centered on the nose, develops a red spot, which is more obvious after eating spicy or hot food or being under mental stress. It is temporary at first, but will not go away over time. It is accompanied by dilation of capillaries in a network-like pattern, shaped like tree branches, and is most obvious at the tip and wings of the nose. If the disease lasts for a long time, rhinoplasty may form. Due to the hyperplasia of connective tissue, enlargement of sebaceous glands, dilation and congestion of capillaries, the tip of the nose becomes enlarged, forming raised nodules of varying sizes, which are called rhinoplasty. The opening of the sebaceous gland is honeycomb-shaped. After squeezing, the sebaceous plug may be squeezed out and shaped like a thinner curved strip. The nodules on the tip of the nose vary in size and may be isolated or scattered, or they may be clustered together, shaped like nipples.

Early symptoms of rosacea

The course of rosacea progresses slowly and can be roughly divided into three stages, with no obvious boundaries between the stages.

1. Erythema stage: It is prone to occur in the middle part of the face, especially the nose, cheeks, forehead, and mandible. It starts with temporary erythema, which is aggravated by hot or cold stimulation, spicy food, and emotional excitement, and then persists. It often occurs on the nose and both sides of the nose, accompanied by capillary dilation, which is distributed in filamentous or tree-like forms.

2. Erythematous and pustular stage: Acne-like rashes and pustules appear on the basis of erythema, but no comedones are formed, and the capillary dilation is more obvious than before.

3. Rhinophyma stage: As the disease progresses over time, the connective tissue and sebaceous glands of the nose proliferate and hypertrophy, causing the appearance of uneven, nodular protrusions of varying sizes on the tip of the nose, which are called rhinophyma. The openings of the sebaceous glands are significantly enlarged and the capillaries are significantly dilated.

If you have rosacea, you should quit smoking and drinking, eat less spicy and irritating foods, eat more vegetables and fruits, and take vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 in moderation; develop good living habits, keep bowel movements smooth, maintain a good mood, avoid emotional excitement, and avoid local skin irritation and sun exposure.
