Methods for preventing and treating frostbite in winter

When autumn and winter come every year, we will see large areas of yellow leaves covering the ground. Of course, this is just a natural phenomenon. In addition, when winter comes, the temperature will generally drop. When the temperature drops to a certain level, our bodies cannot bear it, so many friends will suffer from frostbite at this time.

Frostbite is not unfamiliar to many people, because they usually have experienced frostbite in their daily lives. Although, the incidence of frostbite is generally the same for all groups of people. But careful friends will find that women are actually more likely to suffer from frostbite than men. So, let’s first talk about the specific methods of preventing and treating frostbite in winter.

Chilblains are localized skin inflammation caused by cold in winter or early spring. It often occurs on the extremities and exposed parts of the limbs, such as the hands, feet, tip of the nose, ears, earlobes and cheeks.

Modern medicine believes that frostbite is caused by the skin's poor cold resistance, which, coupled with the invasion of cold, causes the peripheral skin blood vessels to contract or spasm, leading to local blood circulation disorders, resulting in lack of oxygen and nutrition and causing tissue damage. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the occurrence of this disease is due to insufficient Yang Qi and exogenous cold and dampness, which make the circulation of Qi and blood poor and blood stasis cause the disease.

Initially, it presents as a localized purple-red lump or nodule ranging in size from a bean to a fingernail, with bright red edges and purple center. It is cold to the touch and fades when pressed. It recovers slowly after pressure is removed. The patient will feel local swelling and itching, which is worse when exposed to heat. In severe cases, blisters may form, which break down and form ulcers that do not heal for a long time. It is more likely to occur in people with poor blood circulation to the extremities, prone sweating of the hands and feet, and chronic malnutrition. The disease usually occurs in winter and gradually heals as the climate warms up.

A good way to prevent and treat frostbite

1. Soak the affected area in hot salt water for 15 minutes for 1 week.

2. Apply "Ten Drops of Water" to the affected area of frostbite 6 to 10 times a day. It is more effective for those with frostbite that has not yet ulcerated. If the local skin is ulcerated and eroded, apply erythromycin ointment first, and then use Ten Drops of Water after the inflammation subsides.

3. When frostbite just starts to appear, use a hair dryer to blow and rub the affected area every night, and it will be gone after a few days.

4. Use the analgesic plaster to locally treat first-degree frostbite with skin redness, swelling, heat, itching or burning pain, and achieve good results. The method is to first wash the affected area with warm water, then apply the ointment tightly to the affected skin after drying it. It will usually heal in 24 hours. If it does not heal, you can change the ointment several times. It is not suitable for application on broken or allergic skin.

5. There are many ways to treat frostbite, but they often take a long time and are slow to take effect. Yunnan Baiyao is a very effective treatment. The method is: for those with frostbite that has not broken, mix Yunnan Baiyao powder with white wine into a paste and apply it externally, and pay attention to keeping it warm. For those with frostbite that has broken, wash the affected area, sprinkle Yunnan Baiyao powder directly on the wound, and bandage it with sterilized gauze. It will heal within a few days.

6. The wonderful use of the pain-relieving ointment to treat frostbite: The pain-relieving ointment can be used to treat skin redness, swelling, itching and pain caused by frostbite that has not broken. First wash the area with hot water and dry it, then apply the plaster. Apply once a day, and it will be effective after 2-3 times.
