The harm of formaldehyde to human body

Many people move into their new house right after it is renovated. But do you know that many decoration materials now contain formaldehyde? If you move into a new house too early, formaldehyde will affect your life and health. Although you may not feel anything or smell any unusual odors in your life, it can still cause a lot of harm to your health.

Formaldehyde is a toxic chemical in our daily life that can directly damage human health. If it is serious, the whole body will feel uncomfortable, so everyone must pay attention to the presence of formaldehyde.

Formaldehyde hazards: Formaldehyde is a colorless, irritating gas with a strong odor. Its 35% to 40% aqueous solution is commonly known as formalin. Formaldehyde is a protoplasmic poison that can bind to proteins. After inhaling high concentrations of formaldehyde, severe respiratory irritation and edema, eye stinging, headaches, and bronchial asthma may occur. Direct skin contact with formaldehyde can cause dermatitis, pigmentation, and necrosis. Regular inhalation of small amounts of formaldehyde can cause chronic poisoning, resulting in mucosal congestion, skin irritation, allergic dermatitis, nail keratinization and brittleness, and pain at the nail bed and fingertips. Systemic symptoms include headache, fatigue, poor appetite, palpitations, insomnia, weight loss, and autonomic nervous system disorders.

Removal method

1. Ventilation method: There is no need to explain too much about the ventilation method. It is to discharge harmful gases to the outside through the flow of air. This is a simple and effective method. The only drawback is that the formaldehyde release cycle is long, generally three to fifteen years. It is obviously unrealistic to leave the new house vacant for more than three years after decoration. Therefore, ventilation alone cannot meet the requirements.

2. Formaldehyde remover Formaldehyde remover "removes" formaldehyde through chemical reactions. The essence of this method is to reduce the toxicity of the target substance or convert it into a non-toxic substance. Formaldehyde can be oxidized into formic acid or reduced into methanol. Although the toxicity and irritation of these two substances are lower than that of formaldehyde, their toxicity still exists. For example, some highly oxidizing formaldehyde removers can oxidize formaldehyde, but they are easy to decompose. Spraying them on wooden boards will not only damage the wood, but will also lose their effectiveness within a few hours, making it impossible to achieve "one spray and forever." Moreover, high concentrations of cleaners sprayed into the air will create new pollution hazards to humans.

The above is an introduction to the harm of formaldehyde to the human body. I believe that after reading it, everyone will understand the toxicity of formaldehyde. If you want to move in quickly, you can use some cleaning agents to help remove the presence of formaldehyde. Don't ignore the hazards of formaldehyde, because it will directly affect your health.
