Symptoms of chronic alcoholism

Symptoms of chronic alcoholism

There are too many people who like to drink in daily life, but we need to pay attention that if we drink excessively, it will have many adverse effects on our physical health, and long-term drinking will lead to alcohol poisoning. So do you know what symptoms our body will show if chronic alcohol poisoning occurs? Let’s find out together!

Only when we understand some of the symptoms of chronic alcohol poisoning, we will know how to do a good job of prevention and health care in our lives. Only when we pay attention to these issues can we better reduce some adverse harm.

1. Patients often have a history of long-term heavy drinking for about 10 years, with daily alcohol consumption (converted into ordinary liquor) often exceeding 250g, and often have a history of ordinary drunkenness. It manifests as an inability to control the craving for alcohol, a compulsion to drink continuously, and a fixed drinking pattern. The patient must drink at fixed times regardless of the occasion and needs to rely on drinking to support his spiritual life and physical well-being and to relieve withdrawal symptoms. Alcohol has become a necessity in life and cannot be lived without for a day. Drinking has become the center of all activities, obviously affecting work, family life and social activities. People who have been addicted for a short time or to a mild degree feel a sense of loss, emptiness and melancholy once they stop drinking. After drinking, they feel happy, energized and psychologically satisfied. Increased tolerance is an important sign of increasing dependence, but tolerance decreases in the later stages of dependence formation, and even a small amount of drinking can cause damage to the body.

2. Stop or reduce drinking and extend the interval between drinking. Withdrawal symptoms will recur due to the decrease in alcohol concentration in the body. Common symptoms include tremors in the hands, feet, limbs and trunk, ataxia, irritability, irritability, startle reaction, or depression, stagnant thinking, slow reaction and unwillingness to talk. There may be general weakness, stomach discomfort, palpitations, sweating, loss of appetite, insomnia, nausea and vomiting. If you stop drinking in time, the withdrawal symptoms will disappear quickly, and short-term illusions, hallucinations and visual distortion and slurred pronunciation may occur. In severe cases, epileptic seizures, confusion, tremors and delirium may occur after relative or absolute withdrawal. After a night's sleep, the blood alcohol concentration drops significantly, so withdrawal symptoms often appear in the early morning. Most patients need "morning drinking" to relieve the discomfort caused by withdrawal symptoms. Morning drinking is of great significance for the diagnosis of alcohol dependence.

3. Alcohol dependence often presents a pattern of relapse and remission. Cessation of drinking manifests itself as psychological and physical withdrawal symptoms. Nearly half of alcohol abusers or addicts have mental abnormalities, the most common of which are anxiety disorders (lifetime prevalence 19.4%), hostile social personality (14.3%), and affective disorders (13.4%). Those with mild alcohol dependence can often be controlled through withdrawal treatment and changes in lifestyle habits. However, those with severe alcohol dependence who start drinking again after a period of abstinence may return to alcoholism within a few days and will develop symptoms of alcohol dependence faster than before.

The above is an introduction to the symptoms of chronic alcohol poisoning. I believe that after reading these introductions, everyone should have a more comprehensive understanding in their daily lives! Only if we pay attention to the symptoms of alcohol poisoning can we take more comprehensive prevention measures in our daily lives.
