Introduction to androgenic alopecia

Introduction to androgenic alopecia

Hair loss is a symptom that often troubles many middle-aged and elderly people. There are many reasons for hair loss, such as aging, genetic factors, or damage caused by illness. But there is a special kind of hair loss, which is more common in young and middle-aged friends, and the reason for its occurrence is actually due to excessive male hormones in our body. So what is the reason for this kind of hair loss?

Hair and hormones have a very close relationship. Male hormones will inhibit hair growth, while female hormones will promote hair growth. The hair papilla cells of hair loss are responsible for hair growth. Research on receptors has shown that the hair cells on the top of a man's head have more binding proteins that serve as male hormone receptors than the hair on the top of a woman's head.

The number of receptors in the dermal papilla cells is determined genetically. Male hormones promote hair loss because of their involvement with hair matrix cells. Testosterone, a male hormone produced by the testicles, reaches the hair bulb cells through the blood circulation and enters the cytoplasm through the cell membrane. There is 5α-reductase in the cytoplasm, which will react with testosterone to form DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which has a 5-fold increase in hormonal effect. Powerful DHT enters the cell nucleus and affects the metabolic system. In particular, the production of ATP, a substance that provides cellular energy, will be hindered. ATP, which serves as a heat source, cannot be produced, and therefore hair protein synthesis cannot be carried out. The hair matrix cells lose their vitality, begin to keratinize, and finally become resting hair. The hair that enters the resting phase will fall out within about 3 months.

The problem of hair loss has troubled many people since ancient times. Neither the profound Chinese medicine nor the sophisticated Western medicine has a good solution. Therefore, friends who are troubled by hair loss should not be superstitious about some folk remedies that claim to promote hair growth. If you really want to improve your hair problem, you may want to try the hair transplant surgery that has appeared in recent years.
