Symptoms of spastic paralysis

Symptoms of spastic paralysis

I believe everyone must have heard of spastic paralysis, a disease like this? This disease belongs to the nervous system. Its incidence rate has shown an upward trend this year. But how much do you know about this disease? What are its clinical manifestations? What are the causes of this? Let’s discuss it together.

Paralysis refers to the decline in the function of the nervous system, especially the motor nervous system. According to its nature, it can be divided into central (spastic) paralysis and peripheral (flaccid) paralysis. Spastic paralysis is caused by a blockage of the first neuron sent from the cerebral cortex to the anterior horn of the spinal cord, the pyramidal pathway.

Accompanied by symptoms such as fatigue, and fear of cold hands and feet. Some patients also have some complex abnormal sensations, such as an abnormal feeling on the soles of the feet as if stepping on cotton or pebbles, or a tingling, burning, or electric shock sensation when touching objects. If the disease is severe, muscle atrophy may occur. However, most patients have normal limb motor function in the early stages of the disease, which generally does not affect their work and life, and laboratory tests show no obvious damage to the nervous system (some patients have abnormal electromyography). The disease progresses slowly and may last for several years to more than ten years.

Clinical manifestations and diagnosis of spastic paralysis

In mild cases, the fingertips (toes) are numb, while in severe cases, the condition may extend to the entire palm, feet, limbs, and even the entire body. Feeling of numbness, distension, difficulty in flexion and extension, inflexible movement, "like ants crawling" or "pins and needles feeling", some patients have "socks" or "sleeve" type abnormal sensations, feel as if the skin has become thicker, and the senses are dulled. Many patients often experience attacks during sleep at night, and may wake up from numbness, or feel swelling, numbness, discomfort and stiffness in their hands after getting up in the morning, which can be relieved after a little activity.

Causes of spastic paralysis

1. Organic damage to the nervous system. Caused by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery trunk and branches, hemangioma, hypertensive vascular disease, and intracranial tumor.

2. Psychological disorders caused by neuritis due to infection or other factors or excessive psychological stimulation. The method of cutting the superficial and deep tendons of the fingers, cross-anastomosis and adopting corresponding surgical procedures according to other deformities of the hand and forearm in combination with rehabilitation therapy to treat spastic paralysis of the hand is simple, anatomically reasonable and has good results.

Through the introduction in the above article, I believe everyone has a general understanding of spastic paralysis? The onset of this disease presents a slow trend, so its impact on the human body is also subtle. This requires us to pay more attention in life to reduce the harm of spastic paralysis to the human body.
