Comprehensive understanding of Alzheimer's disease

Compared with normal healthy elderly people, the concentration of acetylcholine and the number of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the brain of patients with Alzheimer's disease are reduced. When the message reaches the endings of nerve cells, chemicals called neurotransmitters are released. The effect of nicotinic alkaloids on spatial recognition function was tested on rats with partial brain damage. The results showed that the learning ability of rats with partial brain damage was significantly improved by feeding them nicotinic alkaloids, and the ability was able to reach a level similar to that of normal rats. Moreover, the effect of a single dose can last for 15 days. Therefore, stimulating nicotinic acid receptors is effective in treating perceptual disorders in patients with Alzheimer's disease.

Some researchers used statistical analysis methods and came to the statistical conclusion: there is a significant inverse correlation between smoking and Alzheimer's disease. The more people smoke and the longer their smoking history, the lower their risk of developing the disease. If the smoking history and family history of dementia are linked for analysis, the inverse correlation is stronger for those with a family history of dementia, meaning the risk of developing the disease is the lowest; in the survey group without a family history of dementia, the same trend is reflected in that the higher the smoking level, the lower the risk of developing the disease.

A research team in the Netherlands used 200 patients with Alzheimer's disease and 200 healthy people of the same age and gender as controls to study the age of onset of dementia and the relative risk of Alzheimer's disease.

3. How to prevent Alzheimer's disease? Prevention of Alzheimer's disease should start from middle age, and specifically pay attention to the following points. 1. Cultivate good psychological qualities and establish a good world outlook, analyze everything happening around you realistically and scientifically, and deal with it calmly and properly, avoid the generation of psychological deviations such as extremism and stubbornness, and ensure that psychological reactions are moderate.
