What are the signs of gastric bleeding?

Gastric diseases do not develop in a day or two, but are slowly formed due to long-term damage to the stomach. For example, a serious disease like gastric bleeding is impossible to occur suddenly. It must be caused by a previous chronic stomach disease or gastric ulcer, or by doing things that are harmful to the stomach for a long time. All diseases have certain signs before they occur, and gastric bleeding is no exception. So what are the signs of gastric bleeding?

1. Vomiting blood and black stool

This is a characteristic manifestation of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, usually accompanied by black stools, but not necessarily vomiting of blood. Black feces are tarry, sticky and shiny. They are caused by the iron in hemoglobin reacting with sulfide in the intestine to form iron sulfide. Vomiting blood is often brown in color and resembles coffee grounds. This is due to the formation of hemoglobin by the action of gastric acid in the blood.

2. Fever

It generally does not exceed 38.5℃ and can last for 3-5 days. The cause of fever is still unclear, but it may be related to dysfunction of the body's temperature regulation center.

Upper gastrointestinal bleeding, especially massive bleeding, is a common clinical emergency. Most patients have vomiting blood or black stools as symptoms, but a few patients present with acute peripheral circulatory failure or fainting, and the true symptoms are not revealed. Therefore, early detection, identification of the cause, close observation, and active treatment are necessary to avoid delaying the disease.

3. Blood loss and peripheral circulatory failure

This is a result of massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding, which causes a decrease in circulating blood volume, a correspondingly insufficient amount of venous blood returning to the heart, and a significant decrease in cardiac output. The clinical manifestations include dizziness, thirst, sweating, blackouts, nausea, syncope, and palpitations. Patients often faint and fall to the ground after going to the toilet to defecate, so special attention should be paid.

If one day you find yourself having the above symptoms, you must put down everything you are doing and go to the hospital to have a doctor check you out. It is best to have a gastroscopy so that you can get a better diagnosis. If it is confirmed to be gastric bleeding, don't worry too much. As long as you cooperate with the doctor's treatment, there is a great chance that gastric bleeding can be cured.
