Shingles is a very common skin disease, which has a great impact on patients. Not only does it affect their image, but most importantly, it will bring many sequelae, especially to some special parts, such as eyes, ears, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to actively carry out treatment. So, what are the sequelae of herpes zoster ophthalmicus? Now, let me introduce it to you. Herpes zoster is caused by the varicella-zoster virus and is characterized by clustered small blisters distributed along unilateral peripheral nerves, often accompanied by significant neuralgia. Herpes zoster ophthalmicus is limited to one side and does not cross the midline of the face. Typical symptoms are clusters of blisters of varying sizes appearing on the skin surface of the forehead and eyelids. The area is not large, accompanied by eye pain, mild to moderate headache and general discomfort. Most lesions are mild and gradually disappear after 1 to 2 weeks, leaving no scars after healing. In very rare cases, purulent herpes and ulcers may form, which will scab and fall off after several weeks, leaving scar tissue after healing, affecting the appearance. In some cases, herpes invades the cornea, causing keratitis, corneal ulcers, and conjunctivitis. The patient may develop photophobia, tearing, eye pain, and even vision loss, ptosis, etc. In severe cases, panophthalmitis may occur, leading to blindness, and even sequelae of meningitis; sequelae such as decreased vision, blindness, and facial paralysis may occur after the illness. Therefore, patients suffering from herpes zoster ophthalmicus should not take it lightly. It is best to be hospitalized for treatment to prevent and reduce damage and avoid residual sequelae. In addition to general treatments, the treatment of herpes zoster ophthalmicus also requires the use of antiviral and hormonal eye drops, preventive application of antibiotic water, and laser irradiation in severe cases. The principles of treatment are antiviral, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, shortening the course of the disease, and preventing secondary infection. The main methods are: 1. Systemic treatment, mainly antiviral drugs, glucocorticoids, immunomodulators, etc.; 2. Local treatment, topical medications and physical therapy; 3. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment. For postherpetic neuralgia, Chinese and Western medicines, local medication, nerve root block, intrathecal injection, physical therapy, acupuncture treatment, topical analgesic ointment, etc. can be used, especially for patients with a short course of illness. Shingles is caused by the accumulation of toxins in the body (excessive fire in the liver meridian) or the varicella-zoster virus. The reason why it eventually becomes a chronic disease is mostly because patients are impatient for quick results and blindly use medication, which ultimately leads to repeated attacks and is difficult to cure. Patients must pay attention to rest, which can relieve the pain. They should also pay attention to improving the quality of sleep. Pay attention to diet, eat more easily digestible and non-greasy foods, do not eat fried foods, do not drink alcohol, do not eat spicy and cold foods, and drink plenty of water, which can help alleviate the condition. I hope everyone can recover soon! |
