What is the BCG reaction?

BCG is an antibody that can artificially enhance the body's own immunity and prevent infection and infectious diseases. It is generally used for newborn babies and is very helpful for the healthy growth of babies. However, there is usually no reaction right after the injection, but redness, swelling, pain and other reactions will appear after a while, and everyone's reaction is different. So, what will the BCG reaction be like? Let us understand it with the editor.

Newborn infants and young children are the main targets of BCG vaccination. Vaccination can prevent childhood tuberculosis, especially severe types of tuberculosis, such as tuberculous meningitis. BCG vaccination is very beneficial to the healthy growth of children. BCG vaccination is called the "first shot at birth", so newborns should be vaccinated as soon as they are born in the delivery hospital or obstetrics department. If the vaccination is not timely at birth, the child must go to the BCG clinic of the local tuberculosis prevention and control center or the immunization clinic of the health and epidemic prevention station for booster vaccination within one year old.

After artificial autoimmune preparations are injected into the human body, they form an external stimulus to the human body, which can cause systemic reactions such as fever. The intensity of the reaction varies with the vaccine. It can be divided into two types: local reaction and systemic reaction:

1. Local reaction. After vaccination, some people may experience a short-term inflammatory reaction at the needle hole, some may experience mild inflammatory reaction of redness, swelling, heat and pain at the vaccination site, and some may also experience local lymphadenopathy or lymphangitis. The above reactions generally subside within 48-72 hours.

2. Systemic reactions. A small number of people may experience systemic reactions such as fever, headache, dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness and general discomfort after receiving a certain vaccine. Very few people may also experience nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea and other symptoms. This systemic reaction is usually short-lived and most of them disappear within 24 hours.

Everyone should have a certain understanding of BCG reaction. However, some reactions are normal, but some reactions are indeed harmful to the human body. The editor recommends that if a fever occurs, it is best to measure the child's temperature. If it is below 38 degrees Celsius, there is no need to worry that it is a normal reaction. If it exceeds this, you should go to the clinic for medical treatment and let the child drink more water.
