What are the effects of Hosta?

It is inevitable that we get sick in our daily lives, but sometimes we feel that medicine can cure diseases faster, especially Western medicine. However, in many cases, if Western medicine cannot solve the problem, you can consult a Chinese doctor and take some Chinese medicine. We have all heard of Hosta, but we are not quite sure about its specific effects as a traditional Chinese medicine. What are the effects of Hosta? Below we can learn some information about this aspect. Hosta is not particularly common in our daily life, we have only heard of it, so it should be relatively difficult to cultivate.

Hosta, perennial herb. With thick rhizomes. Leaves are basal; petioles are 20-40cm long; leaf blades are ovate to cordate-ovate, 15-25cm long and 9-15.5cm wide. The scape emerges from the leaf cluster in summer and autumn, with one membranous bract-like leaf, which is 4-6cm long and 1.5-2cm wide; the inflorescence is raceme, the pedicel is 1.2-2cm long, and there are bracts at the base, which are 2-3cm long and 1-1.2cm wide; the flowers are white and fragrant, the lower part of the perianth tube is small, 5-6cm long, 2.5-3.5cm in diameter, and the perianth has 6 lobes, which are oblong, 3.5-4cm long and about 1.2cm wide; the lower part of the stamens is adnate to the perianth tube, the same length as the perianth, or slightly protruding from the perianth; the ovary is about 1.2cm long; the style often protrudes from the perianth. The capsule is cylindrical, 6 cm long and 1 cm in diameter. Flowering period is July-August. Fruiting period: 8-9

Propagation by division: It can be carried out in spring and autumn, but it is better to divide the roots in autumn. Dig out old plants that are more than 2-3 years old, separate the root stumps, and transplant them in clusters of 2-3 buds. In the field, seedlings propagated by seeds grow slowly and require frequent attention to loosening the soil and weeding. Hosta likes fertilizer, so more phosphorus, potassium fertilizer or cake fertilizer should be applied to facilitate plant growth. At the end of March every year, apply decomposed fertilizer around the plants and then water them to promote germination. During the growing season, apply top dressing 2-3 times to achieve dark green leaves and large white flowers. If there is no shade during the seedling stage or after transplanting, a shed needs to be built.

[Pharmacological action] 1. Anti-tumor effect The water extract of Hosta root has shown in whole animal experiments that it has high anti-tumor activity against Ehrlich ascites cancer cells, and the anti-tumor active ingredients are high-molecular compounds. Oral administration or intraperitoneal injection of 0.25 g/kg of eugenol extract for 6 consecutive days inhibited the spleen growth of mouse leukemia L615, with an inhibition rate of 28.5%. 2. Toxicity: The whole plant of Hosta is poisonous and can damage teeth and cause them to fall out.
