What are the effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy on the body

In modern society, with the development of economy, the environment is also suffering great damage. As everyone is in this increasingly harsh environment, their physical conditions begin to have certain problems step by step. For example, cells begin to become malignant and gradually evolve into a terrible disease, namely cancer. Although cancer is not a terminal illness that leaves people completely helpless, it is definitely a disease that is difficult to cure. A very common and effective method for treating cancer in modern medicine is radiotherapy and chemotherapy. So what effects do radiotherapy and chemotherapy have on the body?

Chemotherapy and radiation are designed to kill fast-growing cancer cells, but because the drugs travel throughout the body, they can also attack normal, healthy cells. Damage to healthy tissue is what causes side effects. While side effects aren't always as harmful as people think, chemotherapy's reputation makes it a daunting treatment. The normal cells most susceptible to invasion are blood cells in the bone marrow and cells in the mouth, digestive tract, reproductive system, and hair follicles. Some chemotherapy drugs can damage cells in the heart, kidneys, bladder, lungs, and nervous system.

Cytoprotective drugs can be used to protect the body's normal cells. The most common side effects of chemotherapy include nausea, vomiting, hair loss, and fatigue. Other common side effects include increased bruising, bleeding, and the potential for infection. Most side effects go away when chemotherapy stops because healthy cells recover quickly. The time it takes to get rid of side effects and regain energy varies from person to person and depends on many factors, including the patient's overall health and the specific medications being taken. Many side effects go away very quickly, but some may take months or years to go away. Sometimes, side effects can last a lifetime when chemotherapy causes permanent damage to the heart, lungs, kidneys, or reproductive organs. Sometimes, certain chemotherapies can cause a delayed reaction, such as a second cancer that shows up many years later.

Through the above introduction, I believe everyone has a certain understanding of the harm of radiotherapy and chemotherapy to the body. In summary, the effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy in treating cancer are still very significant at present, but it is certain that there are certain side effects on the human body. All medicines are toxic, not to mention that they are radioactive substances that can kill cells. But this does not mean that you should lose confidence. You must believe in yourself, believe in science, maintain a good attitude and fight the disease to the end.
