Band-Aids are a must-have in many first aid kits. Do you know how to use Band-Aids correctly? What should you pay attention to during use?

Generally speaking, if it is just a minor epidermal abrasion, disinfection with 2% iodine or 75% alcohol can prevent infection and there is no need to use a Band-Aid.

Band-Aid, also known as "hemostatic plaster", has the functions of stopping bleeding and protecting wounds. It can absorb exudate and keep wounds dry.

Due to the limitations of its structure, Band-Aids can usually only be used for emergency treatment of small injuries to temporarily stop bleeding and protect the wound surface. They cannot be used for too long, otherwise the outer layer of adhesive tape will not be breathable. Long-term use can easily cause the wound and the skin around the wound to turn white and soften, and even lead to secondary infection.

Band-Aids are mainly used for relatively superficial wounds, especially for cuts that are neat, clean, do not bleed much and do not require sutures. The following situations should not be treated with Band-Aids:

1. Wounds with larger wound surface and more blood loss;

2. Deep and narrow wounds, such as nail punctures;

3. There are contaminants on the wound surface or foreign matter in the wound;

4. Wounds caused by animal bites, such as dog bites, cat scratches, snake bites, poisonous insect stings, etc.;

5. Burns and scalds with ulceration and exudation;

6. Infected wounds or wounds with secretions or pus on the wound surface.

Do not wrap the Band-Aid too tightly when using it, otherwise it may easily obstruct the blood circulation of the injured part and cause ischemic necrosis. Before using a Band-Aid, check whether there is any dirt left in the wound. If so, the wound must be cleaned before using the Band-Aid.

Small Band-Aids are essential medical supplies in almost every family's medicine cabinet. Especially when traveling, many people will bring a few Band-Aids with them in case of emergency. In fact, there is a lot of knowledge involved in the use of Band-Aids, and they cannot be used in all situations. When using it, you must master the correct way to use Band-Aids. Only then can the Band-Aid play its role.
