What is the normal range of lactate dehydrogenase?

From a clinical perspective, the normal range of lactate dehydrogenase is between 100-300U/L and is present in all tissue cells of the body. If it suddenly becomes too high, you may suffer from muscular dystrophy, liver disease, lung disease, heart disease, kidney disease, leukemia, malignant tumors, etc.

1. Introduction to lactate dehydrogenase

Normal range: serum 100-300 U/L; urine 560-2050 U/L; cerebrospinal fluid content is 1/10 of serum.

Test introduction: Lactate dehydrogenase is a glycolytic enzyme. Lactate dehydrogenase is present in the cytoplasm of all tissue cells in the body, with the highest content in the kidneys.

Clinical significance: Increased: seen in hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer, myocardial infarction, skeletal muscle injury, myocarditis, malignant tumors, kidney disease, pulmonary infarction, megaloblastic anemia, leukemia, malignant lymphoma and pregnancy, etc.

2. Causes of high lactate dehydrogenase

1. Muscular dystrophy: LDH4 and LDH5 in the blood of patients with muscular dystrophy are significantly elevated.

2. Liver disease: When the liver is diseased and liver cells are damaged, LDH4 and LDH5 in the blood will increase significantly. LDH5/LDH4<1 often indicates primary liver cancer. In acute hepatitis, LDH5 increases significantly, while LDH4 does not increase. Chronic hepatitis is manifested by a continuous increase in LDH5 or a decrease followed by an increase.

3. Lung disease: Serum LDH3 often increases in cases of lung disease. In patients with lung abscess, serum LDH3 and LDH4 are often elevated simultaneously with LDH5.

4. Heart disease: Serum LDH1 and LDH2 increase significantly in viral and rheumatic myocarditis, Keshan disease myocardial damage, and acute myocardial infarction.

5. Kidney disease: Serum LDH5 may increase in acute tubular necrosis, chronic glomerulonephritis and renal transplant rejection.

6. When the condition of a hepatitis B virus carrier worsens and becomes a hepatitis B patient, some liver cells are damaged and the levels of LDH4 and LDH5 in the serum will increase to varying degrees.

7. Improper treatment of hepatitis B, especially improper use of medication, and long-term use of the same medication can cause kidney toxicity. When nephrotoxicity occurs, the lactate dehydrogenase level in the serum will increase rapidly.
