What causes motion sickness?

When riding in a car or boat, due to the stimulation of vibration and shaking, the labyrinth in the human ear cannot adapt and regulate the body's balance well, which increases the excitability of the sympathetic nerves and leads to nerve dysfunction, causing symptoms of motion sickness such as dizziness and vomiting. This brings great discomfort to the body and even makes people fear cars. So, what exactly is caused by motion sickness? Let's take a look below.

What causes motion sickness?

1. Individual differences. When the incoming balance stimulation is too strong, such as sudden braking or violent rotation, people will feel dizzy even when the balance system is in a safe and normal state. This is a normal physiological phenomenon and will disappear in a moment. But some people have poor tolerance and react strongly to slight balance stimulation.

2. It is easy to occur when you have poor sleep or are overworked.

3. It is also easy to occur when you are too hungry or too full.

4. It may occur when suffering from certain ear diseases.

5. The car compartment is sealed so that the air cannot circulate, or there is irritation from the smell of certain substances, such as gasoline.

6. When seeing a car, a serious conditioned reflex is formed, and carsickness will occur when seeing or thinking about a car (especially a bus).

Ways to treat motion sickness

1. Metoclopramide: Take 1 tablet of Metoclopramide. If motion sickness is severe, 2 tablets can be taken. The dosage for children should be reduced appropriately. Swallow the tablet 10 to 15 minutes before getting on the car to prevent motion sickness. If you experience motion sickness symptoms after a journey of more than 2 hours, you can take another tablet. Those who take medicine temporarily during travel should stand for 15 to 20 minutes before sitting down to allow for absorption of the medicine. This method has an efficiency of 97% and does not have the side effects of dry mouth, dizziness, etc. caused by other motion sickness tablets.

2. Orange peel: About 1 hour before riding, fold the fresh orange peel inward with the surface facing outwards, then put your two fingers into your nostrils and squeeze it. Aromatic oil mist will be sprayed out of the peel. It can be inhaled more than 10 times, and you can do the same at any time while riding in a car.

The above article introduces the causes and treatments of motion sickness. Everyone should have some understanding of it. People who suffer from motion sickness must adjust their daily routines. People who are prone to motion sickness should eat something before riding in a car, which can effectively relieve motion sickness. People who suffer from motion sickness should ride in a car frequently and not be afraid. After riding in a car frequently for a long time, they will naturally not get motion sickness.
