How to measure standard weight?

Because many people don’t know much about obesity, including how much weight is considered obesity. In fact, people can judge whether they have obesity by observing their own weight in life. Therefore, it is very important to know how to measure your standard weight in daily life. Let’s follow the editor to learn more about it!

Generally speaking, a body weight that exceeds the standard weight by 10% is called overweight, and a body weight that exceeds 20% is considered obese. Obesity is further divided into mild obesity (overweight 20%), moderate obesity (overweight 30%) and severe obesity (overweight 50%) according to the degree of excess weight over the standard weight. However, bodybuilders are not considered obese even if they exceed 20% of their body weight.

Some patients with simple obesity who are mildly to moderately obese may not have any "self-conscious symptoms" before seeing a doctor. However, if you carefully inquire about their medical history and family history, you will find that the so-called lack of symptoms is simply because they do not pay attention to these manifestations, not that they are really asymptomatic.

Patients with severe obesity often experience symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, joint pain, systemic or local edema, and difficulty in movement. Obesity can even cause patients to lose the ability to take care of themselves, and thus lead to psychological disorders such as depression and anxiety.

Patients with simple obesity have a significantly higher risk of developing diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, hyperlipidemia, varicose veins, gout, arthritis and certain cancers than normal people, and their mortality rate also increases accordingly.

A person's weight gain is related to many factors, among which excessive accumulation of adipose tissue is an important aspect. In addition, excessive water retention in tissues or body cavities and muscle development can also cause weight gain.

Whether it is simple or secondary obesity, patients will have certain clinical symptoms. In addition to the primary symptoms of patients with secondary obesity, the most common clinical symptoms of obesity are weight gain, shortness of breath during activities, and unexplained muscle aches.

In addition to judging obesity by the percentage of overweight, other factors must be considered. Since weight gain is not only caused by an increase in adipose tissue, athletes (especially bodybuilders) with well-developed muscles or patients with severe edema may have a weight that exceeds the normal range, but they are not necessarily obese.

On the contrary, people whose weight does not reach overweight are not necessarily obese. Because of their quiet life and lack of exercise, heat energy is not consumed, fat accumulates in the body, muscle is relatively reduced, and their functional cell tissue is reduced. Muscle tissue is replaced by fat tissue and connective tissue. However, because their body fat exceeds normal, they are also obese.

When it comes to the criteria for judging obesity, I believe many people will choose to judge by body shape. In fact, it is wrong to judge obesity by this method. As for the current simple judgment method, it is also necessary to consider the patient's height, weight and fat thickness for a comprehensive analysis, which is the most scientific diagnostic method.
