How about removable dentures

Once teeth fall out, it will seriously affect our normal diet. However, in life, many elderly people will have a mouth full of teeth falling out, which will seriously affect their normal diet and also affect their facial image. In this case, they can only improve it by wearing removable dentures. However, many people know very little about removable dentures and are afraid that they will wear out their gums. Let's learn about removable dentures below.

How about removable dentures

As a common restorative method, how should removable dentures be worn? Precautions for using removable dentures:

(1) Use it regularly. When wearing removable dentures for the first time, most people will experience a foreign body sensation in their mouths, which is an inevitable phenomenon in the early stages. It usually takes 1-2 months to gradually eliminate and adapt, so you must persist. However, if severe pain, malocclusion, bleeding, or misalignment occurs, you must ask a doctor to modify the grinding.

(2) Practice eating and speaking correctly. When wearing dentures for the first time, especially when some of the back teeth are missing, it is often easy to cause partial chewing (that is, only one side of the teeth is used to chew food), which will affect the central occlusion and the fixation of the dentures.

Therefore, it is best to do the following exercise: swallow a mouthful of water first and then clench your teeth, and continue to do this until you reach the central occlusion position. Practice repeatedly and it will become a habit so you won’t chew one thing in the wrong way. Those who have difficulty chewing can first practice eating slowly and in small bites, eating soft food, and then gradually transition to eating hard food after they get used to it. Those who have difficulty speaking and pronouncing words should also practice step by step and not be impatient.

(3) Removable dentures can only withstand a bite force of 2 to 3 kilograms. Compared with natural teeth, the bearing capacity is very small and they are easily broken. Therefore, do not eat hard-shelled foods such as walnuts and pine nuts, and do not bite nails, iron objects, etc., to avoid wear, cracking, dislocation or falling off of dentures. Since the front teeth are not vertical either, it is best not to use the front teeth to bite and cut food, such as apples, pears, sugar cane, etc., but you should learn to use the back teeth to bite and cut.

(4) Eat less sticky and tough foods. Various sticky foods such as glutinous rice cakes, rice dumplings, and soft candies may stick to removable dentures or affect the bite, so you should try to eat less or no sticky foods. Other foods such as cold fried dough sticks and tough cowhide candies should also be eaten less.

(5) Put on and take off correctly. When removing removable dentures, you should mainly push and pull the base rather than the clasp. Be careful not to use excessive force when removing it to avoid deformation or breakage of the snap ring. When wearing dentures, avoid biting them to put them in place to prevent the clasp from deforming or breaking.

(6) Pay attention to oral and denture hygiene. In order to maintain oral hygiene and avoid damage to the tissue in the tray area, you should clean it before and after meals, take it off and wash it before going to bed, put it in clean water overnight, and wash it in the morning before wearing it again.

The above is an introduction to removable dentures. After understanding it, we know that removable dentures require an adaptation process when they are first installed. In addition, we must pay attention to ensuring good oral hygiene during normal use, take them off and clean them every day, and do not chew hard and sticky foods.
