What are the types of fixed dentures?

There may be different reasons for tooth loss. Common causes of missing teeth may be due to early tooth decay or accidents. When teeth are missing, patients will need dentures to replace them.

Types of dentures

1. Removable dentures: Use the remaining natural teeth or mucosa as support, rely on metal or elastic fiber clasps, and fix on the remaining natural adjacent teeth or other related teeth in the mouth. Its advantages are that it has a wide range of adaptability, can be freely removed and worn, is beneficial to oral hygiene, does not require excessive grinding of adjacent teeth, has no obvious damage to adjacent teeth, and has a wide range of applications.

2. Fixed dentures: include post crowns and porcelain bridges, without clasps and bases. They are retained by crowns at both ends of the tooth roots with good apical conditions or the missing parts. They are directly bonded to the root roots that have been treated with root canals or to the healthy teeth adjacent to the missing ends. Fixed dentures cannot be removed freely. Its advantages are beautiful, stable, comfortable, small size, and better ability to perform functions such as chewing and pronunciation. In particular, it is comfortable to wear and there is no obvious foreign body sensation.

3. Dental implants: Dental implants are a type of restoration method that involves implanting implant materials into the alveolar bone and then making dentures based on the implants. An artificial metal root nail made of a high-tech emerging material is surgically implanted into the alveolar bone in the toothless area. After 3 to 6 months, when the tooth root is combined with the bone, the denture is repaired on the tooth root.

The above is an introduction to the types of fixed dentures. After understanding them, we will have more options for fixed dentures, and we will be able to make better choices when we need to install dentures in our daily lives. In order to avoid dental problems, we must ensure oral hygiene in our daily lives and eat less sweets.
