What are the hazards of potassium aldehyde

Although formaldehyde is a toxic substance, it is needed in many aspects of our lives. For example, the decoration of the house is the closest to us, and many materials contain formaldehyde. Many people have heard of the hazards of formaldehyde, but they only know that it is poisonous. They are not very clear about the specific hazards of formaldehyde, which makes it difficult for us to pay full attention to it. So, what are the hazards of potassium aldehyde? Let’s take a closer look at it.

In summary, there are three main serious hazards of formaldehyde exceeding the standard:

1. Sensitization: Direct skin contact with formaldehyde can cause allergic dermatitis, pigmentation, and necrosis. Inhalation of high concentrations of formaldehyde can induce bronchial asthma.

2. Irritation: The main hazard of formaldehyde is its irritation to the skin and mucous membranes. Formaldehyde is a protoplasmic toxic substance that can combine with proteins. When inhaled in high concentrations, it can cause severe respiratory irritation and edema, eye irritation, and headaches.

3. Mutagenic effect: High concentration of formaldehyde is also a genotoxic substance. Experimental animals may develop nasopharyngeal tumors if they inhale high concentrations in the laboratory.

Generally speaking, the concentration of formaldehyde in indoor air is related to the following factors:

1. Indoor temperature

2. Indoor relative humidity

3. The intensity of emission will be aggravated under high temperature and high humidity conditions.

Actual test data show that under certain conditions, the formaldehyde concentration in the air in the living environment can reach above the standard allowable level, and the release period is relatively long, generally 3-15 years.

Formaldehyde comes from 4 aspects

At present, formaldehyde in urban and rural households in my country mainly comes from four aspects:

One is artificial boards such as plywood, blockboard, medium-density fiberboard and particleboard used for interior decoration. Because formaldehyde has strong adhesive properties and can also strengthen the hardness of the board and prevent insects and corrosion, the adhesive currently used in the production of artificial boards is urea-formaldehyde resin with formaldehyde as the main component;

The second is furniture made of artificial boards. A comparative test conducted by a city consumer association showed that among 60 sets of medium-density furniture samples, 29 sets had formaldehyde levels exceeding the national standard, with an excess rate of 48.23%.

The third is other types of decorative materials containing formaldehyde, such as white latex, foam plastic, paint and coating. Experts especially remind that latex adhesives are widely used in wood engineering and wall treatment in decoration and renovation, especially the formaldehyde in the latex enclosed in the wall is difficult to remove;

Fourth, interior decoration textiles, including bedding, wall coverings, wallpaper, chemical fiber carpets, curtains and fabric furniture. In textile production, some formaldehyde-containing additives are often added to increase wrinkle resistance, waterproofness, and fire resistance.

After understanding the hazards of potassium formaldehyde, we must pay attention to formaldehyde. Nowadays people have a very high awareness of health and are very concerned about factors in life that may harm our health. Therefore, when we decorate our house, we must find out whether the materials contain formaldehyde and do relevant tests to avoid affecting our health.
