What are the precautions for blood lipid test

It is important to note that if you want to obtain accurate blood lipid test results, you must be extra careful about many issues before the examination. For example, it is best to fast 12 hours before blood drawing. About 8 hours before the blood drawing, you can drink some water, but you cannot eat anything. During the period before the blood test, you must have a regular eating habit and avoid overeating. Of course, you cannot attend a banquet or eat a lot the night before the blood test.

Avoid high-fat diet 3 days before the examination. Blood lipids, especially triglycerides, are easily increased by the fat content in short-term food. For example, if you eat roast duck the day before a blood lipid test, the blood drawn the next day will be milky. This "turbid" blood has poor light transmittance and will definitely affect the test results. Therefore, you should avoid high-fat foods outside of daily life, such as dinner parties, within three days before blood collection to avoid the illusion of elevated blood lipids.

Maintain consistent eating habits within 2 weeks before the examination, and maintain normal living habits and eating habits within 2 weeks before blood test, so as to reflect the true blood lipid situation, and then determine whether drug treatment is needed, whether the dosage of medicine being taken is appropriate, etc. Blood lipids can only be checked after you have recovered from a cold. Blood lipid levels may change with some physiological and pathological conditions, such as trauma, acute infection, fever, myocardial infarction, and women's menstrual period and pregnancy period. The blood lipids checked at this time are not real. Especially during the acute infection period, blood lipids will be obviously abnormal. The test should be performed when the body is in a relatively stable condition, for example, without any recent acute illness, trauma, surgery, etc.

Before having a blood test, you should also be careful not to take any medicines that the doctor has advised not to take. For example, if you want to test your blood lipids through a blood test, you should not take birth control pills before the test. Some blood pressure-lowering drugs will also affect blood lipids, so they cannot be taken before the test, otherwise the test results will be inaccurate.
