What causes red scalp? Is it serious?

The phenomenon of redness of the scalp may be due to a skin disease caused by fungal infection, or it may be due to a skin allergy in the patient, resulting in redness of the scalp. In addition, patients with seborrheic dermatitis may also have redness of the scalp.

1. Redness, itching and dandruff of the scalp may be a skin disease caused by Malassezia (a type of fungus). The massive reproduction of Malassezia on the scalp causes excessive proliferation of the scalp's stratum corneum, which in turn causes the stratum corneum cells to abnormally fall off in the form of white or gray scales. These shed scales are dandruff. The causes of dandruff are usually divided into physiological and pathological. Dandruff attaches to the surface of the scalp and hair and falls off in large quantities. This seemingly small problem often troubles people in all aspects of work, life, and social life. When dandruff appears, it is often accompanied by symptoms such as scalp inflammation and scalp itching. If appropriate methods are not taken to treat dandruff in a targeted manner, the disease may occur cyclically, recurrently or continuously. In severe cases, it may cause damage to the scalp hair follicles and permanent hair loss.

2. It may be a skin allergy. Skin allergy is a very common skin problem, mainly caused by the thin stratum corneum of the skin, temperature changes, ultraviolet sunburn, cosmetic irritation, and computer radiation. If you have skin allergies, do not take medicine or apply ointment at will. Do not eat irritating foods, wear sunscreen, and use desensitizing skin care products with plant ingredients. These products will not irritate the skin, but will hydrate and nourish the skin while desensitizing it.

3. Redness and hair loss on the scalp are most likely caused by seborrheic dermatitis, which is mainly caused by excessive oil secretion on the patient's scalp. In addition, it is not cleaned in time, which clogs the pores and puts the scalp in an oily and humid environment, which is conducive to the growth of bacteria and causes dermatitis.

If friends encounter scalp redness and hair loss, don’t worry too much. Taking some anti-inflammatory drugs or applying erythromycin ointment on the head can achieve good treatment results. In addition, patients should pay attention to washing their hair frequently, cleaning their scalp in time, ensuring adequate sleep time, and avoid staying up late to work overtime.
