Can solar dermatitis heal on its own? Treatment of solar dermatitis

The sun is the strongest in summer. Some people who work outdoors may get solar dermatitis if they are not careful. This disease is mainly caused by prolonged skin exposure to the sun. If the symptoms are mild, they can heal themselves because skin cells will slowly repair themselves, but you need to pay attention to your diet.

After traveling or swimming for several hours under strong sunlight in midsummer, erythema, blisters, etc. may appear on the exposed skin of the neck, face, arms, shoulders and back, which may cause unbearable itching and pain like burning. After a few days, the erythema and edema will subside, followed by desquamation and peeling, leaving temporary pigmentation. This process is an acute damaging response of the skin to strong sunlight exposure.

There is also a photosensitive skin disease that patients suffer from every year and suffer terribly. After they (because most of the patients are middle-aged and young women) are exposed to sunlight, edema, erythema, papules, etc. appear on the exposed parts of the skin, accompanied by obvious itching. The symptoms are severe in spring and summer, and alleviated or subsided in autumn and winter. This happens every year and the symptoms recur repeatedly. Over the years, the lesions gradually become thicker, rougher, and more pigmented, and may even extend to non-exposed areas of the skin.

Some people with allergic constitutions also develop photosensitive contact dermatitis after contact with exogenous photosensitive substances such as asphalt, tar, cosmetics, detergents, dyes, food additives, preservatives, etc.; they develop photosensitive drug rash or food-induced solar dermatitis after contact with certain drugs such as chlorpromazine, sulfonamides, tetracycline, hydrochlorothiazide, etc., and after eating foods such as gray vegetables, mustard, purslane, amaranth, figs, etc.
