What's wrong with anal itching at night? Be careful of these reasons

Anal itching generally refers to local itching of the anus, which is a common clinical symptom. Many people experience more intense itching at night, but they don’t know what causes anal itching at night. In this case, we can actually consider that it is all due to improper diet on that day.

1. Physiological changes of the perianal skin

Due to the decreased function of sebaceous glands in the elderly, the skin lacks the nourishment of sebum, the skin is dry, and the skin folds around the anus increase. Feces, sweat and dirt can easily accumulate there, making the skin often damp and unclean. It is easy for bacteria to grow and chronic inflammation to occur at the junction of the perianal skin and mucous membrane, causing anal itching.

2. Perianal eczema

It is a common non-infectious skin disease. The lesions are mostly limited to the skin around the anus, and occasionally spread to the buttocks, perineum and clitoris. Rashes, erythema, erosion, exudation, scabs and desquamation may appear locally. The disease has a long course, and the skin around the anus often thickens, becomes grayish white or dark red, and rough, leading to cracking, exudation, itching, and recurrent attacks as the main characteristics. It can occur at any age .

3. Anal pruritus

It is a common local pruritus. The anus sometimes feels slightly itchy. If the itching is severe and does not heal for a long time, it becomes pruritus. It is a common localized neurological dysfunctional skin disease. It is usually limited to the area around the anus, but may spread to the perineum, vulva or behind the scrotum. It usually occurs in people aged 20 to 40 and the elderly, but rarely in young people under 20 years old.

4. Note

If anal itching is scratched for a long time and does not heal, it will cause the skin to become rough and thickened, anal fissures to form, and even infection, causing redness, swelling and pain. The lesions can also spread to the perineum, scrotum, vulva, and even the skin of the buttocks, which is even more unbearable. Therefore, once you have anal itching, you must not scratch it with your hands, as this will cause secondary infection to the local skin.
