How to determine obesity? Let you know about obesity index

Weight can be said to be the most commonly used term in our daily life. In fact, it is also a standard for measuring body shape. In fact, there are often some obesity indexes for weight, which indirectly express whether the body is healthy.

According to Chinese standards, BMI ≥ 28 is considered obesity. '

To determine whether a person is overweight, you cannot rely solely on visual inspection and weighing. There are many common calculation methods internationally. The most common one is the BMI (Body Mass Index, BMI for short). The calculation method is the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters [Body Mass Index (BMI) = weight (kg) ÷ (height × height)]. This number is one of the main criteria for nutritionists to determine whether a person is obese and whether he needs to lose weight.

Doctors say that for the average adult, those with an index between 18.5 and 24 do not need to worry too much about their weight. If you do gain three pounds after the holidays, you can adjust your diet and increase your exercise to make adjustments. Dr. Chen suggested that based on the 7-day Spring Festival holiday, weight fluctuations between 2 and 3 kilograms are within an acceptable range.

In addition to using BMI to determine fatness or thinness, you can also look at body fat percentage. Body fat percentage refers to the proportion of body fat weight in the total body weight. Generally speaking, a normal body fat percentage for men is between 10% and 20%, and a standard body fat percentage for women is between 17% and 30%. But this standard changes with age. For women over 50 years old and men over 55 years old, the body fat percentage standard can be increased by 2% to 3% for every additional 5 years. The calculation method of body fat percentage is as follows:

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height2 (m)

Body fat percentage = 1.2 × BMI + 0.23 × age - 5.4 - 10.8 × gender (male is 1, female is 0)
