What is the normal blood pressure range?

In fact, many people do not pay much attention to the normal range of blood pressure. However, because high blood pressure has become a disease problem that seriously affects people's health, it is necessary to pay attention to understanding the correct blood pressure and related factors.

1. What is the normal range of blood pressure?

The first blood pressure measurement of less than 120/80 mmHg is considered normal blood pressure; the first blood pressure measurement of 120-139/80-89 mmHg is considered high normal blood pressure; the first blood pressure measurement of ≥140/90 mmHg but less than 180/110 mmHg is considered to be hypertension; blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg three times on different days can be diagnosed as hypertension; the first blood pressure measurement of ≥180/110 mmHg is considered to be very likely hypertension, and immediate antihypertensive treatment is recommended, and further examination and evaluation at a medical institution should be carried out, and blood pressure should be closely monitored until it drops to a safe range.

2. Factors Affecting Blood Pressure

The unit of measurement for blood pressure is millimeters of mercury. According to the guidelines of the World Health Organization in 1999, 120/80 or less is the ideal systolic/diastolic blood pressure, and 139/89 or less is normal blood pressure.

140/90 to 160/95 is considered moderately high, and 161/96 or above is considered high blood pressure. Blood pressure allows blood to be transported normally through the arteries to the entire body. If the blood pressure is too low, blood cannot be supplied to the entire body. On the contrary, if the blood pressure is too high, it may damage the blood vessels and may also indicate that there may be abnormalities in the blood or heart. Blood pressure can be affected by:

1. Height: The taller your body is, the greater pressure your heart needs to pump blood so that it can flow throughout your body.

2. Age: The younger you are, the higher your metabolic rate is, the greater your blood flow is, and the heart needs greater pressure to pump blood as you age.

3. Blood viscosity (blood density): The thicker the blood, the greater the pressure the heart needs to pump the blood.

4. Posture: Blood pressure when standing is higher than that when sitting, and blood pressure when sitting is higher than that when lying down. Affected by the principle of gravity.

5. Blood vessel quality: If the blood vessels become narrower, it will be more difficult for blood to pass through, and the heart will need greater pressure to pump blood.

6. Others: mental state, pace of life, individual differences, eating habits, medication, genetics, weather changes, etc.
