Why do wounds leave scars and how to deal with them

Injuries are inevitable in life, and it is very important to take care of the wound after the injury to avoid scars. However, some people still encounter the problem of scars. As for why wounds leave scars, it may be caused by inadequate wound care.

1. Reasons

If the wound was originally infected, it may be residual infection that was not completely cleared and recurred. If the wound was originally clean, there may be hematoma in the wound that has not completely organized. Later, when the body's resistance is reduced, bacteria invade and cause inflammation. The third reason is that there is foreign matter in the wound, such as stitches, gravel, glass, etc. This depends on the circumstances at the time of the injury.

2. Will eating dark foods after an injury darken the color of the scar?

It is generally not believed to be related to the color of food. Pigmentation is directly related to melanin synthesis, which involves complex physiological and biochemical processes. Among exogenous factors, ultraviolet rays are the most important factor that stimulates the formation of melanin; among endogenous factors, the depth of the wound and the number and activity of local melanocytes during the repair process affect the color of the scar; some drugs can cause pigmentation. In order to prevent the formation of pigmentation after the wound heals, it is generally recommended to use sun protection.

3. Will the wound heal faster without a Band-Aid?

For superficial wounds, Band-Aids can seal the wound and prevent infection. If the wound is in a part that is frequently exposed to the outside world, such as a finger, using a Band-Aid can not only prevent infection, but also prevent the wound from tearing again and speed up recovery. From this perspective, Band-Aids can help wounds heal. However, if the Band-Aid is not changed for a long time, the wound is not effectively cleaned and does not maintain a certain moisture level, which will slow down the recovery process. So Band-Aids can be used, but they need to be replaced on time and the wound needs to be treated.
