What to do if a dialysis patient vomits

What to do if a dialysis patient vomits

Nowadays, there are many diseases that are very difficult to treat. For example, uremia requires dialysis because the creatinine level is too high and the toxins in the body cannot be excreted. The main principle of dialysis is to use instruments to purify the blood and excrete toxins from the body. However, long-term dialysis will have certain side effects. The patient will often vomit and feel nauseous, and his blood pressure will gradually decrease. To ensure that this situation is reduced, you must pay attention to diet conditioning and adequate sleep.

The main side effects of hemodialysis are nausea, vomiting, and irritability. Severe cases include convulsions, coma and even death. Light does not require treatment; the treatment of severe cases is mainly immediate administration of hypertonic solutions such as mannitol, 50° cose or 3° cesium chloride 10 ml, or albumin, sedatives and other necessary symptomatic treatments. In more severe cases, dialysis is discontinued.

The most common causes of vomiting after dialysis are:

1. Inadequate dialysis: The adequacy of dialysis is directly related to the frequency and duration of dialysis and the excessive growth of toxins before dialysis. For example, a dialysis patient maintains 2-3 dialysis sessions per week, 4 hours each session. This dialysis frequency should be sufficient, right? In fact, this is only sufficient in terms of "time and frequency". Patients also need to consider

For insufficient dialysis, we must ensure the frequency and duration of dialysis, try not to shorten the frequency and duration of dialysis, and choose a suitable dialyzer and a reasonable dialysis method. In daily life, we must pay attention to controlling our diet, and the standard daily gain should not exceed 3%-5% of dry body weight.

2. Dialysis imbalance syndrome: This disease is relatively common, but the severity of the disease varies when it occurs. Patients with mild symptoms may experience headache, nausea, vomiting, palpitations, high blood pressure, etc., while patients with more severe symptoms may experience muscle cramps, drowsiness, and even coma. To put it simply, the cause of dialysis imbalance is that toxins in the patient's body are cleared quickly and the body is unable to adapt for a while.

In order to prevent the occurrence of dialysis imbalance syndrome, patients usually have to go through a guided dialysis process before formal dialysis, usually starting with 2.5 hours, 3 hours, 3.5 hours, and 4 hours in an incremental manner to control the occurrence of symptoms. After formal dialysis, you should choose a dialyzer that suits you and ensure the adequacy of dialysis. Patients should also calculate their dry weight accurately. This can be calculated through communication with a doctor. Do not estimate it yourself.
