What are the precautions for conjunctivitis

Patients with conjunctivitis need to be isolated after contracting the disease, because conjunctivitis is contagious. When treating conjunctivitis, patients should pay attention to their own hygiene and wash their hands frequently to prevent germs from entering the eyes through their hands.

Precautions for conjunctivitis:

(1) Do not go to public places for haircuts, bathing or swimming to avoid infecting others;

(2) Use face washing utensils separately from those of your family members to avoid infection among family members;

(3) Develop a good habit of not rubbing your eyes and washing your hands frequently;

(4) Eye towels and other items should be disinfected with chlorine-containing disinfectants or boiled for 10 minutes;

(5) If there is excessive eye secretion that affects vision, rinse the eyes with a sterile cotton ball dipped in cold salt water or 4% boric acid solution. Prepare brine with cold boiled water, adding 1g of salt per 100ml of water;

(6) Use ribavirin and rifampicin eye drops every 0.5 to 1 hour, alternating between the two. Do not share the same eye drops with others.

(7) When applying eye drops or sleeping, tilt your head toward the affected side to prevent secretions from the affected eye from flowing to the healthy eye;

(8) Do not allow the mouth of the eye dropper bottle to come into contact with the eyes or secretions to prevent contamination of the bottle mouth and cross infection. Conjunctivitis is mainly caused by bacterial infection and is often treated with various antibiotic eye drops, such as chloramphenicol, rifampicin, gentamicin and other eye drops. In order to make the small amount of low concentration eye drops continue to work in the eye, frequent application of the medicine is the key to treatment. At the same time, eye ointments such as erythromycin and tetracycline should be used before going to bed so that the medicine can remain in the eye and be gradually absorbed.
