My cheeks hurt when I eat

Cheek pain has a great impact on people's daily life. Eating and talking will be affected, and people cannot concentrate on work. Usually, there are many causes of cheek pain. Before treatment, it is necessary to find out the cause and then actively treat it. Cheek pain when eating can be divided into physiological and pathological. Pathological pain needs to be treated in time.

Why does my cheek hurt when I eat?

The first type is pain caused by getting angry. It is recommended to take antipyretic drugs such as Niuhuang Jiedu Tablets, penicillins, and cephalosporins. You can eat antipyretic foods such as cucumber, bitter gourd, astragalus, and jasmine.

The second type is the possible existence of gingivitis and periodontitis. It is recommended to go to the dentist for teeth cleaning treatment, and use hydrogen peroxide and compound boric acid solution for rinsing to relieve symptoms. Do not eat irritating foods.

The third possibility is that the pain is caused by mumps.

Symptoms of mumps

Mumps is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by the mumps virus invading the parotid gland. The sick patient is the source of infection, and inhalation of droplets is the main route of transmission. The disease usually occurs two weeks after contact with the patient. After the onset of mumps, the main symptom is swelling of the lower part of one or both earlobes, and the swollen parotid glands often appear hemispherical. When the patient opens his mouth or chews, he will feel severe local pain. Generally, parotid swelling is most obvious within three days after the acute onset of the disease, and then it will gradually subside. In about two weeks, the swelling will completely subside. However, within five days of onset, patients will feel fever, fatigue and discomfort.

Treatment for mumps

For patients with parotid gland enlargement, obvious pain, and obvious systemic symptoms (such as high fever), it is recommended to give antiviral drugs, antibiotics, and vitamin C intravenously for 3-5 consecutive days. After the symptoms have improved significantly, switch to oral antiviral drugs for 3-5 days. Through about 10 days of systematic treatment, most children can recover without any sequelae. For very severe parotid gland swelling, you can also consider applying some Chinese medicine externally to promote swelling reduction, but you must pay attention to skin protection to avoid skin damage. It should be noted that it is impossible to completely cure mumps by external application alone, and it may even leave complications such as recurrent mumps. For those with mild symptoms, they can be basically cured in about 7 to 10 days through oral antiviral drugs, antibiotics and VC.
