1. Duhuo Jishe Decoction

1 liang of white peony root; 1 liang of Eucommia ulmoides; 1 liang of Radix Angelicae Sinensis; 1 liang of Saposhnikovia divaricata; 1 liang of Angelica dahurica; 1 liang of Ginseng; 1 liang of Asarum; 1 liang of Cassia bark; 1 liang of Rehmannia glutinosa; 1 liang of Achyranthes bidentata; 1 liang of Chuanxiong; 1 liang of Parasitic Plant; 1 liang of Licorice; 3 liang of Angelica dahurica.

2. Clinical Application

Key points for syndrome differentiation: This prescription is commonly used to treat chronic arthritis resulting in liver and kidney deficiency and insufficient qi and blood. In clinical application, the key points for diagnosis are cold pain in the waist and knees, difficulty in flexion and extension of the limbs, palpitations and shortness of breath, and weak pulse. 2. Add and subtract: For patients with severe pain due to arthralgia, add processed Chuanwu, processed Caowu, and Baihuashe to help expel wind and dredge meridians, promote blood circulation and relieve pain; for patients with predominant cold evil, add aconite and dried ginger to warm the yang and dispel cold; for patients with predominant dampness evil, remove Rehmannia root and add Stephania tetrandra, Coix seed, and Atractylodes lancea to remove dampness and reduce swelling; for patients with mild deficiency of vital energy, reduce the amount of Rehmannia root and ginseng. 3. Modern application: This prescription is often used for chronic arthritis, rheumatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic sciatica, lumbar muscle strain, bone hyperplasia, polio, etc., which are caused by long-term wind-cold-dampness and insufficient vital energy. 4. Use with caution: Do not use for patients with arthralgia due to damp-heat syndrome.

3. Prescription Indications

Wind injures the kidney meridian, causing cramps in the waist, which, if not treated for a long time, flows into the feet and knees, causing hemiplegia, cold numbness, slowness and weakness; it can also cause cramps in the waist and feet, rheumatism in the joints, and beriberi after childbirth; blood deficiency after childbirth can cause wind, cramps in the hands and feet, spasms in the tendons and veins, occasional convulsions, and hemiplegia; or because of working too early, the wind evil can enter the body.
