What are the symptoms of tension headache

Once a headache occurs, it is very painful, and is no less painful than a toothache. There are many types of headaches, including pathological headaches, neural headaches, etc. Among neural headaches, tension headaches are the most frustrating, because tension headaches are not caused by diseases, but are related to people's thoughts. It is necessary to distinguish the difference between tension headaches and physiological headaches in order to prescribe the right medicine. Let's take a look at the symptoms of tension headaches.

Tension headaches are caused by prolonged contraction of the muscles in the head and neck. This contraction can be caused by:

1. As a result of anxiety or depression accompanied by mental stress;

2. As a secondary symptom of headache or pain in other parts of the body due to other reasons;

3. Caused by poor posture of the head, neck and shoulder girdle.

Symptoms:

1. This disease is more common in young and middle-aged people, but children can also get it, regardless of gender. The initial symptoms are mild, and then gradually become significantly worse. The clinical characteristics of tension headache are dull pain in the head without pulsation. The headache is located in the top, temporal, forehead and occipital regions, and sometimes all of the above parts are painful.

2. The headache is mild or moderate and is not aggravated by physical activity. Patients often complain of a heavy pressure on the top of the head or a tight feeling on the head. The pillow and neck are also tight and stiff, which is particularly obvious when turning the neck. There is no photophobia or phonophobia. A few patients have mild irritability or depression. Physical examination, including neurological examination, shows no positive signs in the pericranial muscles, such as the occipital muscles.

3. There is often tenderness in the muscles on the top of the head and upper shoulders. Sometimes, gently massaging them makes the patient feel relaxed and comfortable. There should be no abnormalities in the brain CT or MRI, and there should be no hypertension or obvious ENT diseases.
