How to effectively correct strabismus

How to effectively correct strabismus

When it comes to correcting strabismus, of course you have to pay attention to the choice of methods, which includes eye examination and glasses fitting. This is necessary because wearing glasses can better help you correct the problem of strabismus. You can also choose to cover your healthy eye.

1. Eye examination and glasses fitting: Use 1% atropine eye drops or eye ointment to dilate the pupils, first check whether there are any lesions in the fundus, and then do a detailed eye examination to determine the degree of refractive error. Those with hyperopia or hyperopic astigmatism should be given glasses for correction. Many people with strabismus find that their eyes are no longer strabismic, or the degree of strabismus is significantly reduced, after wearing glasses for a period of time. For such children, we should encourage them to wear glasses regularly, both for seeing far and near, without interruption. Generally, the effect can be seen after wearing them for about half a year. After wearing glasses, you should have your eyes tested once a year so that the prescription can be adjusted as you age.

2. Cover the healthy eye: For those with too large a difference in refractive power between the two eyes or with one eye being farsighted and having poor vision, the healthy eye can be covered. The purpose is to allow the person to see things with squinting eyes after wearing the glasses, so as to receive more light stimulation and promote the development of the retina. If the vision of the strabismus improves after patching the healthy eye, you need to wear glasses to check the degree of strabismus. If the degree of strabismus is significantly reduced, you need to continue patching and check the vision and strabismus once a month.

3. Synoptophore training: For children with strabismus, if conditions permit, it is best to go to Hefei Pure Eye Hospital for stereoscope or synoptophore training. Children with strabismus have their vision corrected after wearing glasses, but their binocular vision function is often still impaired. These trainings are not only very helpful in correcting the position of strabismus, but also play a good role in restoring binocular single vision function and establishing stereoscopic perception.

4. Surgical treatment: Children who have not been treated with the above methods for 1 to 2 years or who still have strabismus, or whose strabismus is treated too late, need to undergo surgical correction on the basis of wearing glasses.
