What are the dangers of removing wisdom teeth

The growth of wisdom teeth can cause great trouble to many people, as it can easily lead to swollen and painful gums, causing great pain in life and work. After the wisdom teeth are removed, there may also be certain hazards, such as easily inducing pulpitis and causing adjacent teeth to loosen.

1. Induce pericoronitis of wisdom teeth:

Because wisdom tooth extraction will cause local trauma (such as bite injury to the opposing teeth), these traumas can induce pericoronitis of wisdom teeth. Because the eruption of the mandibular third molar (i.e. wisdom tooth) often lacks sufficient space and is prone to impaction, this situation is more common in wisdom teeth. Common impaction conditions in clinical practice include mesial impaction, horizontal impaction, and vertical impaction. Therefore, if there is no care after wisdom tooth extraction, it is easy to induce pericoronitis.

2. Induce pulpitis:

The biggest harm that wisdom teeth cause to people is that they can easily cause food impaction. This is because if a person's wisdom teeth cannot grow completely to their normal position, it is easy for food residues, bacteria, etc. to be retained in the gap between the wisdom teeth and the adjacent teeth in front of them. This can easily cause caries of the adjacent teeth in front of the wisdom teeth, and may slowly develop into pulpitis.

3. Cause adjacent teeth to loosen:

The alveolar bone in the wisdom tooth area is also easily absorbed, causing the teeth in front of the wisdom teeth to loosen. Wisdom teeth that fail to fully erupt are very prone to pericoronitis, which is more likely to occur when one is tired or has low body resistance. Pericoronitis may recur, and if not treated actively, it may lead to infection in the oral and maxillofacial space, causing adjacent teeth to loosen.

The growth of wisdom teeth can easily cause pain and oral inflammation, and may also cause swollen cheeks, or induce tooth decay, jaw pain, etc. However, for some people, the symptoms do not affect the growth of wisdom teeth. Therefore, if you observe through X-rays that the position of wisdom teeth is not growing well, then removing the wisdom teeth is the right choice, otherwise it will affect oral health.
