Introduction to treatment methods for knee osteoarthritis

If knee arthritis is severe, it will affect daily life and work, and treatment issues must be paid attention to. First of all, patients must pay attention to controlling their diet and losing weight. At the same time, they must also pay attention to supplementing more vitamins and minerals and exercising moderately.

1. Disease Education: Knee osteoarthritis is mostly caused by degenerative changes, and the prognosis of patients is generally good. While alleviating the patient's mental concerns, necessary life guidance should be provided to the patient. Make them realize that it is very important to control diet, lose weight, pay attention to supplementing vitamins and minerals (including calcium), and adhere to moderate functional exercise. In addition, pay attention to choosing suitable shoes and insoles, as well as crutches and knee pads. At the same time, pay attention to self-protection in daily life to avoid overwork and cold.

2. Physical therapy muscle coordination exercises and muscle strength enhancement can effectively relieve joint pain symptoms. Appropriate physical exercise is very beneficial to enhance the strength and endurance of muscles around joints, maintain and enhance the range of joint motion, and improve patients' ability to perform daily activities. Aerobics and quadriceps strengthening training are effective in relieving pain and improving function.

3. Quadriceps strengthening training: The method is: the patient sits down, lets the calf hang down, hangs a 2-3kg weight on the ankle joint, consciously contracts the quadriceps, and performs knee flexion and extension exercises. Quadriceps contraction exercises can increase the contraction force of the quadriceps, promote blood circulation around the knee joint, prevent local muscle atrophy and reduce bone calcium loss.

4. Muscle isometric exercise can enhance muscle strength. Exercise about 4 times a day.

For patients undergoing physical therapy, if limb pain occurs during exercise or pain lasts for more than 15 minutes after exercise, the intensity and frequency of exercise should be appropriately reduced, and then increased after the patient gradually adapts.

5. Diet therapy: Eat more calcium-rich foods, such as milk, soy products, seafood and green vegetables, which can supplement the calcium needed by the normal human body, reduce body calcium loss, and especially prevent bone calcium loss in women before and after menopause.
