Does anal fissure bleed a lot? What are the symptoms?

Many people are afraid of anal fissure because it is complicated to treat and may cause bleeding in severe cases. When anal fissure occurs, there is usually obvious pain. Careful friends will also find some blood in the stool and an itchy feeling.

The symptoms of anal fissure include the following:

1. Pain: Pain is the main symptom of anal fissure, which is characterized by periodic pain during defecation. When you feel the urge to defecate, the anus dilates and pain begins; when you defecate, feces rush out of the fissure, causing defecation pain; the pain stops or eases after defecation, which is called the interval period, and then, due to the spasm and contraction of the anal sphincter, the patient feels severe tearing pain again.

2. Blood in stool: Anal fissure causes irregular blood in stool, which is sometimes present and sometimes absent. It is related to defecation because the wound surface of the anal fissure is scratched or torn by dry and hard feces.

3. Constipation: Constipation is one of the causes of anal fissure and also a sequela of anal fissure. After anal fissure occurs, many people are afraid of the pain during defecation and dare not defecate, which often causes constipation. Constipation aggravates the anal fissure, forming a vicious cycle.

4. Itching: Patients with anal fissures often experience anal itching and discomfort due to the leakage of anal secretions, which irritate the anal skin.

What to do if anal fissure bleeds

The treatment of anal fissure should be analyzed according to the specific condition. If it is a chronic anal fissure and the above treatment methods are ineffective, surgical excision can be used, including excision of the ulcer and skin tag, and cutting off part of the external sphincter fibers, which can reduce postoperative sphincter spasm and facilitate healing. The wound surface is not sutured. After surgery, bowel movements are maintained, hot water sitz baths and wound dressings are changed until complete healing.
