What causes cracked nails?

Under normal circumstances, the nails are relatively smooth. If you find that your nails are cracked, you need to find out the specific cause and then treat it. Cracked nails may be caused by malnutrition, psoriasis, nail infection, etc. If you want to recover, you must first find out the cause.

Causes of cracked nails

Factor 1: Malnutrition. It may be a manifestation of vitamin A deficiency or systemic malnutrition in the human body. In this case, you need to consider whether you have a picky eating habit and do not like to eat foods high in vitamin A such as radish and fish, or whether you have digestive dysfunction and even if you eat foods rich in vitamin A, you absorb it poorly. In this case, it is best for everyone to increase the intake of milk in the diet, or eat more seaweed foods to increase the intake of vitamin A to supplement calcium, gelatin, vitamins and other nutrients. You can also apply cream to keep your nails smooth and moisturized.

Factor 2: Psoriasis. Patients with psoriasis may have pinhole-like depressions, cracks, and thickening on their nails.

Factor 3: Nail infection. If infected by Trichophyton rubrum or Candida albicans, the nails may become thicker, gray-brown, or become damaged or deformed.

Nail care habits to develop for cracked nails

1. Wash your hands gently and avoid scratching your nails with a hard-bristled brush or roughly scraping hard objects with your nails. This will make your nails brittle and cause your nails to curl up and separate from the nail bed. When cleaning your nails, you can use soapy water or some professional hand cleaning products, such as Nail Cleaning and Antibacterial Liquid (for hand washing). At the same time, use soft cloth such as sponges to clean the surface, surrounding areas, and gaps of the nails.

2. Supplement protein in your diet. Nails are made of protein. If white horizontal lines appear at the bottom of your nails, it may be a protein deficiency. You should eat more beans, seeds, nuts, eggs or meat.
