What are the causes of non-Hodgkin lymphoma?

What are the causes of non-Hodgkin lymphoma?

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is a type of malignant lymphoma with a relatively high incidence, and the incidence of this disease has increased in recent years. Therefore, we still need to be vigilant about non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. It is best to understand its cause and take active precautions.

1. Abnormal immune function

Both innate and acquired immune dysfunction are relevant factors. For example, patients with acquired autoimmune diseases such as Sjögren's syndrome and systemic lupus erythematosus are often accompanied by impaired T lymphocyte function, which affects the body's immune response to viral infections and new malignant cells. The incidence of NHL in these patients has increased several times.

2. Viral infection

Several viruses are associated with NHL. Including Epstein-Barr virus, human T-lymphotropic virus type 1, human herpes virus type 8, etc.

3. Bacterial infection

Bacteria cannot directly stimulate tumor cells, but they can stimulate cells in specific areas of the tumor, causing malignant cell proliferation and leading to the occurrence of tumors. It is currently known that more than 90% of the occurrence of gastric mucosa-associated tissue lymphoma in NHL is related to Helicobacter pylori infection.

4. Genetic factors

The risk of NHL may increase 2 to 4 times if a close relative has a history of a blood/lymphatic system malignancy.

5. Other factors

Increased use of chemical substances, increased exposure to radiation, unhealthy lifestyles, etc. For example, hair dye may be a risk factor for the disease.
