1. Causes

The causes of nasal capillary dilation are very complicated. Currently, most scholars believe that Demodex infection is an important factor in the onset of the disease, but not the only factor. Alcoholism, spicy food, high temperature and cold stimulation, digestion, endocrine disorders, etc. can also induce nasal capillary dilation.

In addition, long-term mental stress, gastrointestinal dysfunction, smoking, alcoholism, and eating spicy and irritating foods can also induce nasal capillary dilation.

2. Differential Diagnosis

A red nose tip indicates excess heat in the lungs and spleen; a slightly red nose tip indicates deficiency heat in the spleen meridian; if a woman's nose wings are red, she should be careful about amenorrhea; if a child's nose bridge is red and purple, he or she is prone to carbuncle, pus and blood; a bright red nose can be seen in polycythemia; a red nose and dry nasal cavity are prone to nosebleeds; a pale and yellow face, dilated and congested nasal capillaries, and bloodshot nose are mostly caused by cirrhosis of the liver; a red and swollen nasal cavity are all caused by heat toxins.

In addition, some patients with cardiovascular disease, hypertension or abnormal liver function may also have a red nose, so they should pay special attention. When red patches appear on the bridge of the nose, protrude above the surface of the skin, and extend toward the cheeks on both sides, systemic lupus erythematosus should be suspected and the patient should be examined by an immunology and rheumatology department. Redness of the outer edge of the nostrils is often seen in intestinal diseases or congestive inflammation. On the contrary, if the inner edge of the nostrils is red and the nasal septum is ulcerated, it is most likely syphilis.

3. Prevention

In your diet, you should be careful not to eat spicy foods that are too irritating, and especially avoid alcohol. The diet should be light and eat more fruits and vegetables. Be careful to avoid stimulation of excessive cold or heat, and don't be emotionally excited or mentally nervous. You can take appropriate amounts of B vitamins orally, such as vitamin B2, B6, and vitamin B complex.

4. Inspection

The symptoms of nasal capillary dilation are obvious bloodshot eyes on both sides of the nose. Patients with severe disease may develop chronic inflammatory skin lesions on the nose, which mostly occur in middle-aged men. It usually presents as redness on the external nasal skin, most notably at the tip of the nose. The capillaries in the nose are obviously dilated, and sometimes you can see the dilated small blood vessels in a branch-like shape through the skin. Due to the vigorous secretion of local sebaceous glands, the nose appears red and bright. As the disease progresses, the skin may proliferate and thicken, and even develop rashes or small pustules, and the appearance may become rough and uneven, forming "rosacea".
