What are the symptoms of ureteral stones

When we are healthy, we generally don’t feel any pain or discomfort. So if we experience pain without any external force, we should think that we may have a disease. Ureteral stones can also cause pain. Let’s take a closer look at the symptoms of ureteral stones.

1. Pain: About half of patients with ureteral stones experience severe colic, while the other half experience dull pain in the waist or upper abdomen.

2. Hematuria : Since stones directly damage the mucosa of the kidneys and ureters, some patients with ureteral stones often experience microscopic hematuria or macroscopic hematuria after severe pain. The severity of hematuria is related to the degree of damage. For larger stones that do not affect urine flow, there may only be dull pain and mild hematuria.

3. Frequent urination, urgency, and pain during urination: Stones in the ureteral bladder wall segment can cause urgency, frequent urination, and pain during urination. This may be because the muscles at the lower end of the ureter are connected to the muscles in the trigone of the bladder and directly attached to the posterior urethra.

4. Hydronephrosis : The ureteral lumen is small, and stones can easily cause obstruction, leading to ipsilateral hydronephrosis and infection, and renal insufficiency. Some patients with ureteral stones may also experience gastrointestinal symptoms, anemia, etc.

Different stone compositions or the patient's body position during examination can affect stone visualization. It is recommended to try medical treatment for stone removal first, such as using Yushitong Tea from the Chinese Medicine Tea House, or injecting progesterone injection, which can relieve the spasm of the smooth muscle of the renal pelvis and ureter, dilate the ureter and promote the excretion of stones. Drinking more water and exercising more in daily life are conducive to the excretion of stones.
