Why does my neck often get stiff?

Many people do not pay attention to stiff neck, which can cause great harm to people's neck in the long run. Many people want to know why they often suffer from neck stiffness. This situation is likely related to people’s sleeping posture. It may also be that frequent stiff neck is caused by muscle sprain.

1. First of all, check whether your pillow is suitable. If you often get a stiff neck on the right side of your neck, then check whether the pillow is uneven. If it is uneven, fix it. Also pay attention to whether the pillow is too high.

2. Improper sleeping posture. When sleeping, the pillow is too high or too low, which causes the neck muscles to spasm and fatigue. If you sleep too deeply, when you turn over, your body turns but your neck does not turn with it, which puts your neck in a bad position, causing stimulation and pain. Therefore, it is called "stiff neck" or "lost pillow".

3. Feeling cold during sleep. The patient gets cold and painful because the wind blows on him with the doors and windows open during sleep. This causes blockage of local meridians and poor circulation of qi and blood, so it is also called "stiff neck wind". Most stiff neck pains usually last for 2-3 days and can heal on their own without treatment, but if you hope to relieve the pain as soon as possible and recover early.

4. Muscle sprain. For example, if you have a bad sleeping posture at night, your head and neck will be in an over-deflected position for a long time; or if you have an inappropriate pillow while sleeping, which is too high, too low or too hard, causing the head and neck to be in a state of hyperextension or hyperflexion, these can cause tension in the muscles on one side of the neck and twist the facet joints of the cervical vertebrae. Static injury can occur over time, making the muscles and tendons at the injured area stiff and disharmony, qi and blood circulation poor, causing local pain and discomfort, and significantly restricted movements.
