What is chicken E. coli disease?

Chicken E. coli is actually avian E. coli disease, a pathogenic E. coli. Although it is prevalent among poultry, it can also cause great harm to humans. Therefore, when encountering these problems in poultry farming, attention should be paid to correct treatment.

1. Basic Introduction

Avian colibacillosis is caused by pathogenic Escherichia coli. The main types of disease include embryo and chick death, sepsis, air sac inflammation, pericarditis, salpingitis, enteritis, peritonitis and Escherichia coli granuloma. Because it is often co-infected with mycoplasma and is often secondary to other infectious diseases (such as Newcastle disease, avian influenza, infectious bronchitis, pasteurellosis, etc.), treatment is very difficult. At present, this disease has become an important infectious disease that endangers the animal husbandry industry, often causing huge economic losses.

2. Clinical symptoms

Listlessness, reduced or no food intake, standing still or crouching without movement, purple crown and beard, grayish white iris, decreased vision or blindness, ruffled feathers, feces stuck to the feathers around the anus, green or yellowish-white loose feces, crouching, unable to stand, unwilling to move or limping, swollen joints, enlarged liver, bleeding and ulcers in the intestinal mucosa, inflammation of the pericardium, ascites and egg yolk accumulation in the abdominal cavity

3. Pathogen and pathogenesis

The pathogen is Escherichia coli, abbreviated as E. coli, from the genus Escherichia in the family Enterobacteriaceae. There are many serotypes of this disease. The serotypes of pathogenic Escherichia coli reported internationally include 01, K1, 02:Ki and O78:KO. Those found in China include O5, O7, O14, O64, O68, O73, O74, O89, O103, O147, etc.

When the body's resistance is reduced, such as by overheating, overcooling, excessive density, malnutrition and other disease factors (Newcastle disease, avian influenza, infectious bronchitis, pasteurellosis, etc.), the barrier function of the skin and mucous membranes may be reduced, and pathogenic Escherichia coli may multiply, thus causing the disease. The bacteria excreted by sick chickens contaminate the eggshells through their feces and infect the chicken embryos, causing embryonic death and illness in chicks. The feces pollute the environment and are transmitted to healthy chicks through drinking water, feed and air.

4. Key points for prevention and treatment

Escherichia coli is sensitive to many antibiotics, sulfonamides and furans. It is best to conduct a drug sensitivity test and select sensitive drugs for treatment.

1. Intramuscular injection of American Repps Escherichia coli Con; unimmunized poultry can be prevented and treated with Escherichia coli high immune serum. For birds under 15 days old, inject 1 ml; for birds over 15 days old, inject 2 ml. Repeat every other day. For adult birds, inject 0.5 ml/kg body weight, once a day. For severe cases, use 2 to 3 times in a row.

2. Usage of oxytetracycline 100-500g: mixed feed. Use 100-500g of medicine per 100kg of feed for 7 consecutive days. You can also use sulfamethoxazole, 20-40g per 100kg of feed, or norfloxacin, 5-20 grams per 100kg of feed, and feed for 5-7 days.

3. Usage of 750g of Avicennia: Mix it into 100kg of feed and feed it freely for 2-3 days.
