Can shingles be transmitted to family members?

Shingles is a common virus. Once it infects the human body, it will cause massive proliferation and eventually cause great harm, especially to the patient's nervous system. Generally speaking, shingles is not contagious, but it should not be taken lightly. If someone in the family has poor immunity, they may be susceptible to the shingles virus.

1. Theoretically, there is virus in the blister fluid of shingles patients.

Shingles is contagious to a certain extent. If a shingles patient has close contact with a child who has not had chickenpox, the child may be infected with chickenpox. In addition, adults with weakened immune systems who have never had chickenpox can be infected and develop "adult chickenpox", but they generally will not be directly infected with shingles. Therefore, shingles will not cause an epidemic among the population. People with shingles are not contagious and do not require special isolation, but they should avoid close contact with children.

2. Herpes zoster symptoms

1 to 3 days after the onset of herpes zoster, bean-sized, highly tense papules and blisters will appear on the skin at the site of the disease. They are distributed along the nerves, arranged in clusters and in the shape of strips. The main symptoms of this disease are general fatigue, loss of appetite, mild fever, and soon a burning sensation, throbbing pain or itching in the affected area.

3. Skin symptoms of herpes zoster

In mild cases, there may be no pain, but there may be itching, or only erythema without obvious herpes; in severe cases, there is obvious pain, restlessness, and blisters, blood blisters, and even necrosis may occur on the skin. After a few days, the clear and transparent blisters turn into turbid pustules, and some may rupture and form erosions. Elderly patients often experience severe pain that affects their sleep. If not treated in time, pain will remain after the skin lesions subside. Entering the post-herpetic period, leaving recurring nerve pain.
