Xanthium sibiricum treatment of rhinitis

Xanthium sibiricum is an annual herb of the Asteraceae family. The fruit of Xanthium sibiricum is called "Xanthium sibiricum seed". It tastes bitter, warm in nature, and slightly toxic. It enters the lung and liver meridians. "Compendium of Materia Medica" records that this medicine has the effect of "steaming the brain to stop nosebleed". It has the effects of sweating, dispersing rheumatism, clearing the nasal orifices, and relieving pain. It is used as an important medicine for nasal diseases in folk and clinical practice. It has a long history of use and definite efficacy. It has been included in all editions of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.

Experts believe that the internal cause of rhinitis is mainly lung, spleen and kidney deficiency, while the external cause is mostly induced by wind and cold invasion or stimulation by strange air and odor. Currently, there is no specific medicine for the treatment of this disease at home and abroad, and traditional Chinese medicine treatment has a certain effect. The folk remedies for treating rhinitis with Xanthium sibiricum are as follows:

Gently break 30-40 Xanthium sibiricums, put them into a small aluminum pot, add 50 grams of sesame oil, and fry the Xanthium sibiricums over low heat. When the Xanthium sibiricums are fried dry, filter the medicinal oil and put it into a clean bottle for later use. When using, use a sterilized cotton ball dipped in a small amount of medicated oil and apply it to the nasal cavity, 2-3 times a day, for a course of two weeks.

When applying nasal drops, tilt your head to one side about 45 degrees and put 1-2 drops in each nostril to ensure that the medicine enters the sinuses. This method should be used persistently and without interruption until the patient is cured. A total of 207 cases were treated. Except for 3 cases with no effect and 12 cases that did not persist in taking the medication, the rest were cured and their clinical symptoms completely disappeared. The longest follow-up time was 3 years, and no recurrence was observed.
