What are the causes of demyelinating diseases?

Demyelinating disease is a relatively serious brain disease. For the body, suffering from demyelination will cause great difficulty in movement, and the pain is particularly intense, and it is easy to make people sleepy, etc. The incidence of this disease has been increasing in recent years and it has become one of the killers of people’s health. Let’s take a look at the causes of demyelinating diseases.

Causes diagnosed by Western medicine:

(1) Genetic causes of congenital myelination disorders, such as adrenoleukodystrophy.

(2) Ischemia and hypoxia, such as demyelinating encephalopathy caused by cardiac and respiratory arrest.

(3) Nutritional deficiency, such as lack of oxygen. Vitamin B12 deficiency.

(4) Autoimmune dysfunction, autoantibodies attacking one’s own myelin sheath. Such as: Behcet's disease, lupus brain, etc.

(5) Poisoning, such as CO poisoning. Mercury poisoning.

TCM diagnosis of the cause:

The primary and most fundamental cause of this disease is the stagnation of Qi and blood! This is caused by poor circulation of Qi and blood, which cannot nourish the tendons and veins of the limbs. Common clinical conditions include: deficiency of both Qi and blood, wind, cold and dampness, Qi stagnation and blood stasis, as well as joint strain and hyperplasia, which affect the normal circulation of Qi and blood in the whole body or locally, resulting in numbness and pain in the limbs.

Physical weakness, overwork, or malnutrition after illness can easily lead to deficiency of both Qi and blood. If blood is deficient, blood and qi will not circulate smoothly. Or it may be due to wind-cold evil, such as being exposed to cold, wind, humidity and other factors invading the body. The cold causes blood stagnation, and the poor blood circulation leads to numbness.

People who are obese (common among people with "three highs") eat too much greasy and delicious food, which causes the blood to become viscous, blood vessels to harden, blood flow to become slow, and blood circulation to become poor, resulting in insufficient blood supply to the body's tissues and organs, leading to numbness. This specialty adopts the method of invigorating qi, activating blood circulation, and unblocking tendons and meridians to prescribe medicines, and has achieved good results in clinical treatment.
