What is the reason for high peroxidase

Many people find that their thyroid peroxidase levels are high when they go to the hospital for a check-up, so they think they have a thyroid disease. In fact, this idea is wrong. If the peroxidase level is high, it means you have thyroiditis. High peroxidase level does not necessarily mean you have a thyroid disease, it may also be caused by an immune disease. Now let’s talk about what high peroxidase level is.

1. Situation 1

Anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody is the preferred indicator for diagnosing thyroid autoimmune diseases. As long as it is elevated, it has diagnostic reference significance. The elevation of a single anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody cannot determine what disease it is. Further examination of anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (TGAb), anti-thyroid microsomal antibodies (TMAb), TRAB, thyroid color ultrasound, thyroid function, etc. is needed.

2. Case 2

1.) If everything is normal, then there is no big problem and just need to check regularly.

2.) If TGAb, TMAb, and thyroid function are all high, then it is Hashimoto's thyroiditis with hyperthyroidism, and anti-hyperthyroidism treatment is required.

3.) If TGAb and TMAb are high and thyroid function is decreased, then it is Hashimoto's thyroiditis with hypothyroidism, and hypothyroidism treatment is required.

4.) If TGAb and TMAb are high and thyroid function is normal, then it is Hashimoto's thyroiditis. No special treatment is required. Regular thyroid function checks may be enough. However, this situation may develop into hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism in the future.

3. Case 3

Elevated levels of anti-thyroglobulin antibodies and anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies indicate that your body has produced antibodies against your own thyroid gland, which is an autoimmune abnormality. Such people are more likely to develop hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism in the future, and their miscarriage rate among pregnant women is slightly higher than that of ordinary people. However, as long as the three indicators of thyrotropin, free triiodothyronine, and free thyroxine are all within normal values (if the person is preparing to become pregnant or is already pregnant, the normal range is different from that of ordinary people), it is not hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism.
