In fact, when a cold is getting better, the symptoms of a cold are gradually weakening and slowly returning to normal. Common cold symptoms include acute rhinitis, viral pharyngitis, bronchitis, runny nose, sneezing, etc. These are common symptoms of colds. 1. Acute rhinitis Typical symptoms: The onset is relatively acute, with dry throat, itchy throat or burning sensation in the early stage. At the same time or several hours after the onset, there may be sneezing, nasal congestion, and clear nasal discharge, which becomes thicker after 2-3 days. May be accompanied by sore throat. There is generally no fever or systemic symptoms, or only low-grade fever, malaise, mild chills and headache. Examination revealed congestion, edema, secretions in the nasal mucosa, and mild congestion in the pharynx. 2. Viral pharyngitis, laryngitis and bronchitis Depending on the inflammatory response caused by the virus to the different anatomical sites of upper and lower respiratory tract infections, clinical manifestations may include pharyngitis, laryngitis, and bronchitis. Viral pharyngitis: The clinical features are itching and burning sensation in the throat. The pain is neither persistent nor prominent. Pain when swallowing often indicates a streptococcal infection. Cough is uncommon. Influenza virus and adenovirus infections may cause fever and fatigue. Physical examination revealed obvious congestion and edema of the pharynx. The submandibular lymph nodes are enlarged and tender. Viral laryngitis: Clinical features include hoarseness, difficulty speaking, pain when coughing, often with fever, pharyngitis or cough. Physical examination may reveal laryngeal edema and congestion, mild enlargement and tenderness of local lymph nodes, and audible wheezing. Viral bronchitis: Clinical manifestations are cough, no sputum or mucous sputum, accompanied by fever and fatigue. Other symptoms often include hoarseness and nonpleural substernal pain. Dry or moist rales may be heard. Chest X-ray showed increased and enhanced vascular shadows, but no pulmonary infiltration shadows. 3. Herpetic pharyngitis The main symptoms are obvious sore throat and fever, and the course of the disease is about one week. Examination revealed pharyngeal congestion, grayish-white herpes and superficial ulcers on the surface of the soft palate, uvula, pharynx and tonsils, surrounded by red halos. It usually occurs in summer, more often in children and occasionally in adults. 4. Pharyngeal conjunctival fever Clinical manifestations include fever, sore throat, photophobia, tearing, and obvious congestion of the pharynx and conjunctiva. The course of the disease is 4-6 days. It often occurs in the summer and is transmitted during swimming. It is more common in children. 5. Bacterial pharyngitis The main symptoms are acute onset, obvious sore throat, chills, and fever, with body temperature reaching above 39°C. Examination revealed obvious congestion in the pharynx, enlarged and congested tonsils with yellow punctate exudates on the surface, enlarged and tender submandibular lymph nodes, and no abnormal signs in the lungs. |
