What emergency measures should be taken for ankle sprains?

Joint problems have always been something we need to pay attention to, especially now that many people walk for a long time or sprain their feet while walking, which may lead to joint sprains. This will cause local redness and swelling, or local bleeding, and the patient will not be able to continue walking. The patient must sit down on the spot and raise the soles of the feet as much as possible to prevent blood accumulation. Emergency treatment can be achieved through cold compresses or cold water irrigation.

How to treat an ankle sprain

Athletes often prefer to practice long runs on trails or trail courses rather than on sidewalks or roads, and they should. However, running on an uneven surface (or simply running into a pothole or over a curb) can cause a sprained ankle, which can be very painful. An ankle sprain is a strain or tear in the tendons in your ankle that connect your leg bones to your ankle bones (and ultimately your foot).

The most common ankle sprain is ankle inversion, where your ankle turns outward from your body, straining the anterior talofibular ligament. In this condition, the outside of your foot and ankle becomes swollen and painful. Unless you run on a nice surface or a field that isn't covered in leaves in the fall, you can't avoid spraining your ankle. But if you sprain your ankle, there are several things you should do.

The basic principle of sports injury recovery is the English abbreviation RICE. The first is rest. Try not to walk on your foot until the pain stops. Overusing your foot during this time will only delay the healing process of the injury and prolong the pain. This means that not only can you not run, but you can't do anything that involves a lot of activity.

The second is ice. Apply cold compress to your ankle for 15 minutes, then 15 minutes off, and repeat this cycle as many times as you can. A bag of ice may be too cold to place on your skin, so I recommend either wrapping the ice in a towel or using a surgical cold compress.

Gently wrap the compress around your ankle to provide more stability. Don't wrap it too hard, as this will block blood flow to your foot and hinder recovery.
