Why do cracked teeth not need to be extracted

Teeth are the hardest part of the human body. When teeth are cracked, it will affect the appearance of the teeth and affect the normal chewing function of the human body. When a tooth is cracked, does it need to be extracted? When a tooth is cracked, it is not necessary to remove the entire tooth. If the tooth is severely cracked, the root and pulp of the tooth will be damaged and medical attention is required immediately.

Causes of Cracked Teeth

1. Severe wear, enamel defects, and insufficient resistance.

2. Tooth decay: the hard tissue of the tooth is suspended in the air and easily broken by external force.

3. Abnormal bite force, such as biting a stone.

4. Trauma.

5. After root canal treatment: Teeth that have undergone root canal treatment lose the nutrient supply from the dental pulp, just like a tree that has lost its roots. They slowly wither and become very fragile, causing the teeth to become more brittle and easy to split.

age:

It is more common in people aged 30-60 years old. People in this age group have strong physique and strong chewing power, so they are more likely to suffer from split teeth. In addition, people over 60 years old are more likely to suffer from systemic diseases due to their weak constitution and increased tooth brittleness, but they have less chewing power.

Location:

The first permanent molars are most susceptible to tooth splitting (more often in the maxillary than in the mandibular). Because the first permanent molar is the first permanent tooth to erupt, it bears the greatest combined force. During chewing, the lower teeth hit the lower teeth, so the upper teeth bear a greater combined force than the lower jaw.

What should I do if my tooth is cracked?

The texture and properties of teeth are very similar to stone. If there are cracks or splits, they cannot be repaired by themselves. See a dentist for examination and treatment in time.

The degree of tooth splitting depends on the severity. If only a small part of the crown is split, the splitting has occurred for a short time, and the infection is not serious, you can use a crown (porcelain tooth) to protect the tooth and prevent disease. It will not heal on its own.

If the split is large enough to reach the tooth root and causes obvious pain, the dental pulp may be damaged. In this case, you can perform root canal treatment under anesthesia. After a week without clinical symptoms, you can perform full crown restoration and protection. If root canal treatment has been performed, the shape of the crown of the affected tooth can be directly restored and then crown protection can be performed.

How to prevent it?

In terms of prevention, if the tooth has undergone endodontic treatment and the crown itself is severely damaged due to caries or trauma, it should be protected with an inlay or crown as soon as possible after complete root canal treatment to prevent splitting. For cracked teeth, the occlusion should be adjusted before any symptoms occur to reduce the occlusal burden on the cracked teeth and minimize the chance of splitting of the teeth.
