Can I drink milk during confinement?

Milk is a popular drink in daily life and plays an important role in supplementing the body's nutrition. In particular, some pregnant mothers hope to supplement the nutrition of themselves and their babies by drinking milk. However, many new mothers in the confinement period do not know how to use milk correctly to assist in postpartum recovery. In fact, mothers in confinement can indeed supplement protein by drinking milk, but they must learn the correct method.

Milk is praised by nutritionists as "white blood" and is indispensable for new mothers during the confinement period. It can supplement new mothers with high-quality protein, fat, lactose, and various vitamins, trace elements, etc. However, some new mothers lack the scientific knowledge about drinking milk and often fall into misunderstandings unconsciously.

1. Four things not to do when drinking milk

1. Milk should not be boiled at high temperature. Boiling milk for too long will greatly reduce the nutritional value of the milk. When heated to 100 degrees, the color, aroma and taste of milk will change, and it is also easy to cause the loss of nutrients such as lysine and vitamins. Therefore, when heating milk, the temperature should not be too high and the time should not be too long. Generally speaking, you only need to heat it to 70-90 degrees and then leave the heat.

2. Do not add sugar when boiling milk. Some new mothers believe that adding some sugar when cooking milk will make it both nutritious and taste better, but they don't know that this is incorrect. Because when milk and sugar are cooked together, the lysine in the milk protein and fructose will produce a toxic substance - fructosyllysine under high temperature. This substance cannot be digested and absorbed by the human body and will cause harm to the human body.

3. It is not advisable to add calcium powder to milk. Some new mothers often add calcium powder when boiling milk, thinking that this can kill two birds with one stone. In fact, this is also wrong. The protein in milk is mainly casein. When calcium powder is added to the milk, the casein will combine with calcium ions to cause the milk to coagulate. When heated, other proteins in the milk will also precipitate with calcium, thus affecting the nutritional value of the milk.

4. Oranges should not be eaten with milk. When the protein in milk meets the fruit acid in oranges, it will coagulate, thus affecting the digestion and absorption of milk. Therefore, it is not advisable to eat oranges about 1 hour before or after drinking milk.

2. It is not advisable to drink milk on an empty stomach in the morning

Some new mothers have the habit of drinking milk on an empty stomach in the morning, but this is actually very unscientific. After a night's sleep, the new mother's stomach has already been emptied. If she drinks milk at this time, the milk will be quickly discharged from the stomach, resulting in the loss of nutrients.

In addition, milk is rich in high-quality proteins. The main function of these proteins is to form new tissues in the human body and repair existing tissues. If a new mother drinks milk on an empty stomach in the morning, not only will the milk be quickly discharged from the stomach, but the above-mentioned precious protein will also be broken down into calories and consumed by the human body, which will not fully play the role that protein should play. Therefore, new mothers should not drink milk on an empty stomach in the morning. It is best to drink it in breakfast, lunch or evening.

Many new mothers think that it is enough to brush their teeth after drinking milk, and some even go directly to bed after drinking milk. In fact, these are bad habits that can easily cause oral diseases.

Medical experts point out that milk contains certain enzymes that can dry out the throat mucosa and cause discomfort in the throat. The dry oral environment is particularly suitable for the survival of bacteria. It not only accelerates the reproduction of bacteria, but also causes the bacteria to decompose the protein in milk and produce sulfide-smelling gas, which leads to bad breath. In addition, the massive multiplication of bacteria will destroy the acid-base balance in the mouth and generate dental plaque, which will cause a series of oral problems such as tooth decay and gingivitis.

But there is no need to be nervous. After drinking milk, new mothers just need to drink some warm water. Warm water can not only clear the residual milk in the mouth, but also wash away the milk residue attached to the throat, thereby cleaning the mouth and moisturizing the throat.
